Duke pays the referees to get calls all game long in just about every contest they play. Coach K has even trained his players to fall down at the slightest hint of contact (what i like to call the FLOP DEFENSE) because HE KNOWS that he will get the call 9 times out of 10. Its utterly pathetic. Not even Carolina is that low.

it is kind of a part of college b-ball at this point, it is so intrenched in the minds of the refs/announcers/coaches/players that it does not bother many people anymore, including me

Which brings you to another question. Is Duke the king of college basketball? They have the best recruiting classes year after year and are loaded with more McDonald's All Americans THIS YEAR then most other big time schools not named UNC have had in the last TEN YEARS. Yet they have 1 national championship in the last 14 years. Meanwhile 2 other schools have won 2 in that same span.

How do you quantify which program is more succesful? Consecutive Sweet 16s? Number of Final Fours? National Championships?

What do you guys think..

Well I wanted to say 10 years because I believe that is when their recruiting really emerged to that higher level. So use the last 10 years.

Kentucky won in '95 and '97. UConn won in '99 and '04. Duke won in '01.

Basically I was just wondering what you guys think the best way to quantify a program in comparison to another is. Conference wins, Final 4's, Sweet 16, or National Championships?

Just look at Illinois last year, if you watched any of their games last year it was rediculous how slanted the refs were....but it was a good story, national audience, and they were undefeated, so to beat them you were going to have to beat them on the court, and beat the subtle bias their way!
