I'm not condemning the incongruity and I'm sure there are plenty of explanations. I just thought it was an interesting data point for analysis into why more and more people are looking upon liberals and liberal ideology with disdain.

^^ Haha, are you kidding? How many people now do you know that actually full-heartedly support Bush? On these boards even, there use to be a lot, now it's only the people everyone agrees are nuts. Bush's approval rating just hit its lowest point ever (a few weeks ago), and is still pretty low.

It's more clear that people have a growing disdain for Bush's conservative ideologies.

"The art show's producer Josh Wainwright, insisted he hadn't even made the Bin Laden connection. "Knowing what you know now would you have barred the painting from being part of your show?" I asked. "Absolutely not," he replied. Wainwright says he's a military veteran and despises Bin Laden, but he added, "I don't think it's anyone's job or vocation to limit the expression of artists.""

Well, being the producer of the art show, IE spending his money to display this art, it would be well within his right to refuse the use of his money to promote ideas he finds despicable.

Because not full-heartedly supporting Bush = liberalism?

I would probably be a huge liberal if I didn't have such a disdain for liberals. Looks like I'm stuck in the middle.

^ umm no, that's not what I was saying. I was pointing out that the amount of people who full heartedly support Bush has dropped a lot in the past few years, which shows people have a growing disdain for his ideologies.

Somehow, people have yet to learn that there are ideologies other than those of George W. Bush, and those of liberals.

Hopefully, these people will develop brains one day.

You're trying to build a contradiction where none exists. There's nothing contradictory about a liberal condemning the drawings as offensive; they are. The editorial cartoonist should've been free to draw his drawing, and Muslims, liberals, and anyone else who wants to should be free to criticize it.

Wake me up when you hear a liberal saying cartoons of that nature should be illegal.

the point is, the average liberal would also defend the "jesus as osama" painting out of hand. why? because its trendy to hate and castigate christians, while muslims are perceived to be innocent victims of discrimination... which is bloody fucking ironic because middle-eastern islamists' plans for the world far outstrip any perceived christian "oppression" or "influence"

i mean, seriously, ya that's freaking brilliant to hate on christians because they want to teach ID alongside evolution... but you know, those poor persecuted muslims who regularly beat their wives, force them to wear burqas and would ban your precious radiohead in a nanosecond must have their beliefs treated with kid fucking gloves.

Exactly.

It's a sad state of affairs when you have to be scared for drawing ANYTHING. Somebody should be able to draw Jesus, Mohammed, and fucking Ganesh all jerking off onto Dakota Fanning and the US Constitution without fear of reprisal.

even if i bought your stupid analogy of these cartoons to sex-acts, you're still off your fucking rocker. These photos were published thousands of miles away in a tiny-ass fucking country in the middle of nowhere-europe.

Now all the dumbass muslims, who haven't even seen the fuckin shit, are throwing down in their own countries because of it....

So, to fix your argument, it'd be like publishing photos of sex-acts in some amsterdam weekly. wait. shit. that already happens EVERY DAY so wtf are you fucking talking about. oh yea you're a fucking idiot.

This is the wrong thread for this... but Bush has experienced an unusual loss of support for a president.

Clinton was above 50% for most of his term (if not all...), even during the Lewinsky scandal. Bush went from about 80% (if not higher after 9/11) to a low of 38%, and is still below 50% (and was below 50 for a while before the recent dip). I bet he finishes out below 50%.

^ Liberals equate Christianity with their political enemies in the GOP. As for teh l3ft's defense of Islam, there's that old saying that comes to mind - the enemy of my enemy is my friend. The Muslim world, or at least the segments that the media focuses on, makes no bones about their hatred for Bush. Those Muslim protestors are living the American liberal's dream.

i know but its just so goddamned ironic because if the muslims had as much influence on the GOP and our nation as christians did, the liberals would be crying for the good old "liberal" days of james dobson and the evangelicals.

It certainly wouldn't happen now.

There have been points in time that it would have. And don't act like Christians never act out violence for what they perceive is protecting their faith and values.

So basically, this whole thing is about you pwning an imaginary liberal who's saying "it's ok for Jesus to be portrayed as Osama in a painting, but not ok for Mohammed to be portrayed as a terrorist in an editorial cartoon?"

jesus christ, Matt, how lame. you disappoint me.

you're trying to find some sort of systemic incongruity of an entire political philosophy, by comparing an obscure local New York news station reporter, with some other self-described Kossack living in Denmark from some unheard of weblog!!

then you say it's "an interesting data point for analysis" regarding some sort of widespread "disdain" towards liberalism?

how exactly does one go about analyzing a single data point? or even two unrelated data points for that matter.

no liberal would condemn either the cartoonists or the publisher of the cartoons.

I mean, goddamn, if everyone adhered to every single restriction and proscription demanded by the various religions, no one could ever think or say or do anything.

and as far as incongruity between your political parties and their supposed platforms go, pls explain to me how one reconciles the traditional laissez-faire/states-rights party with their current quest for an ever expansive and invasive federal government?

ok sure whatever. you liberals sure seem to be having fun denying my point, but you know its true.

you know its fucking true.

i mean, for christ's sake, how many of you guys have darwin fish on your cars? that should end the argument right there.

how about those paintings by chris ophieli (sp?) of the virgin mary with elephant dung splattered all over her? god you liberals stopped at nothing to defend them back in guiliani's day. And whereas christians were protesting the paintings, I never heard of any RIOTS and I never heard of any large christian organizations calling for the murder of the artist.

You guys seriously need to back the fuck down and consider what I'm saying here. Christianity's not that fucking bad. All that pent-up anger and bitterness towards southern-baptists that you guys KNOW you harbor (even though you'll deny it), ought to be redirected towards these crazy ass muslims who would take southern baptist desires to restrict your life and raise them 100. But instead we get this sycophantic drivel from you guys about "respecting" a culture that promotes beating women and the banning of ALL music. good job.

I'm sorry, what's your point? What's your argument?

1. Liberals are looked down upon?
2. Liberals have different viewpoints?
3. Muslims are less tolerant than Christians?
