I'm suprised that no one started a thread on this yet. Apparently Montana and Bradshaw skipped the pre-game MVP ceremony over cash. The MVP's got $1000 plus expenses, airfare, a car, and tickets to the game to show up. Montana said he wanted $100k.

Personally it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I can understand Bradshaw a little more as he said he wanted to be with his family and was ending a season of commentary on the weekends, but Montana should be ashamed.

^ Yeah Mike and Mike were talking about this on the morning show today. Bradshaw had an excuse, but Montana wanted appearance fees for the week of 100 Gs. He is a prick and should be ashamed. Fuck Montana.

^^ No

He is a bitch. The NFL made him a multi, multi-millonaire and he can't even show up for a halftime show to honor his ass without getting paid. Fuck him, he is just like TO. All about the $$$$.

This is hilarious. I love Joe Montana for doing this. With the amount of money floating around the NFL, an offer of one thousand dollars for an appearance is fucking offensive.

That's a joke. It's not a "ceremony honoring him," it's a way for the NFL to hype the SB for more money. He has the right to decide whether or not to come.

yeah, and to me that includes all activities related to the game. i mean like it or not, off the field behavior influences people's perceptions of you as an athlete. there's absolutely no justifiable reason to demand 100k other than greed

i realize that, but when you've been force fed his godlike status for 23 years, its a little shocking to hear about anything that taints his image. i guess it helps that i'm just a casual montana fan too

The NFL did not make him a millionare. He earned that money through hard work and talent, and a lot of people got rich off of his hard work and talent.

People aren’t perfect—including athletes. The sooner you learn this, the less disappointed you’ll be in the future.

Yeah because without the NFL, he could have just gone down to the local park and threw the ball around and made a million dollars assuming he worked hard Joe Montana is a millionaire because the NFL exists and markets itself so that it can pay it's players millions. He is a product of the league, not the other way around. The halftime stunt to honor the former Super Bowl MVPs is the kind of stuff that keeps the NFL on top. Montana is a greedy cock.

Montana has a right to do what he wants, hell I am sure he makes money doing other things during a week like speeches and what have you, this was an appearance fee, these guys were in Detroit the entire week, and someone like Montana is bound to have autograph seekers. Its not like they were just there Sunday.

A simple "No thanks" from Joe Montana would have sufficed, AKA- What Bradshaw did, gasp, Bradshaw is smarter than Montana, well not really, but on that issue he was. And Montana is not even the undisputed best player at his position, these god-like comparisons and "He can do what he wants" are off base. Comparing Jordan to Montana is pointless. Montana's supporting cast= undisputed best WR, nasty tight end, solid RB's and nasty defenses, AKA- Great Teams. Jordan's supporting cast=Pippen, that's it, and look what he did without Jordan, nada. 95% of so called rabbid sports fans couldn't name either starting center for either of the three peats, why, because they weren't good enough. Montana must be hard up for cash, something just doesn't add up.

He did do a FedEx commercial recently...
I doubt he's actually hurtin for money, but if he wanted 100k to walk across the field, i wonder what fedex gave him for the commercial.

didnt the bulls almost make it to the finals with just pippen during jordan's fake retirement???

edit: not the finals but they definitely made the playoffs, in fact i dont think pippen has ever been on a non-playoff team until late in his career

how is that 'did nothing'??

Over half the teams make the playoffs in the NBA, 16 of 30. Most teams get in with .500 records. The bullls made it one year at 30-52 with Jordan before they started winning. It's like making a bowl in college football. It only matters what you do once you get to the playoffs. Jordan went all the way, and Scottie cried like a bitch when the final shot when to Kukoc instead of him. Pippen was the ultimate sidekick, great as a second option, but never could succeed as the man.

whats worse is that the oportunity to get honored in front of the whole nation doesnt come around every day, if he did this his commercial fee would have increased even more, just a bad mistake by him,

Montana was on the phone with SAS tonight and it took him a long time to deny the 100k charges. He simply sidestepped it the first time and brought up family, which is cool, if he was trying to spend time with his kids. Typical Montana, very cool and collected simply said it wasn't true. I think it is just not his nature to open a can on anyone. Although if that reporter lied about any other athlete, he would be slammed by that athlete. Still not convincedd 100% Montana didn't ask for the 100 K though, but for Montana to yell and throw mud at the reporter was never going to happen, can't figure out why I expected it.

Seeing his son play basketball > than going to the Superbowl

and you'd have to be retarded to wonder if Joe Montana was the Superbowl MVP when he won it three times.
