Got Resident Evil Zero for my bday... but the games broken (used copy) only lets you get a little way into the first level and stops working.

I'm debating returning it and using the $ from it towards resident evil 4, or just getting another copy of 0. The little of 0 I did play didn't seem to have any way to adjust the camera, and I found the walking around controls annoying. Is that just a first level thing, or a throughout the game thing? Also how do all the different res evil games stack up against each other so I'll know which to get (for game cube).

I like the movies (haven't played any of the games before today though). Also I'm looking forward to "Resident Evil: Afterlife (2006)" which is listed at http://www.imdb.com

So which game is best, which one should I go for, and is the camera/walking bad throughout res evil 0?

Resident Evil 4 is by far the best Resident Evil game. It's a no-brainer.

The backgrounds in RE 0 are prerendered IIRC, so you can't rotate the camera.

I own both RE0 and RE4. If you can return RE0 and get 4, by all means do it. Absolutely no question in my mind.

yah 0 is a prequal so it is just like the others...pre determined camera. re4 is 3rd person behind leons back and is by far the best re game and very bad ass.

step 1: forget everything you learned from the movies.

edit:
okay, not everything. some of the names are right. i only played the first one, and there was a jill in that one. and there's the whole Umbrella thing. and it takes place in raccoon city. i think thats pretty much it.

from wiki

The original Resident Evil centers around a series of cannibalistic homicides that occur in the Arklay Mountains region, situated north of the fictional Raccoon City in 1998. The local police's Special Tactics and Rescue Service are commissioned to investigate the sources of these murders. When Bravo Team, the initial team deployed to the area, fails to report back, Alpha Team goes on a rescue mission to find them. They are led to a seemingly abandoned mansion, where the team encounters zombies and other creatures, leading them to discover the remains of most of their comrades in the house. In the end, it is revealed that the house is actually a front for a top-secret laboratory owned by the international Umbrella Corporation, and that the creatures are the result of experiments with a mutagenic toxin called the T-Virus. Resident Evil 0 explores the cause of the viral outbreak and Bravo Team's ordeal prior to the events of the Mansion incident.

The following game, Resident Evil 2, takes place two months after the events of the original game in Raccoon City itself. With S.T.A.R.S. unable to convict Umbrella for their wrongdoings, the company continues their experiments within an underground facility. However, a failed attempt to steal a former scientist's work results in the T-Virus being leaked into the city's sewage. This results in most of the city's population being turned into zombies, leaving only a few survivors trying to find a way to escape the city alive. The third game, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, takes place around this same time period, and features a similar premise. The game concludes its story by depicting the city's ultimate destruction by a nuclear warhead.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica depicts the previous games' survivors attempt to expose the Umbrella corporation and sabotage their operations. Code: Veronica reveals the existence of a rival corporation, who are also developing their own bio-weapons.

***SPOILERS***

I have Res Evil 1-4 for GC, but I have only finished 1 and 4. I am currently on 2. I think the only consistent character between the movies and the games was Jill Valentine, she (I think is the main character in RE3). In RE1 you play as either Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield and as nothing22 said above, it ends with both escaping the mansion and it exploding, destroying (or at least you think it destroyed) the T-Virus. Another guy you might want to remember is Albert Wesker, he is the leader of the STARS team who turns out to be working for Umbrella. He betrays STARS in RE1 and mysteriously escapes the mansion before the explosion. In RE2, you play as either Leon Kennedy - a new recruit to the Raccoon City Police Department - or Claire Redfield - Chris' sister who has come looking for him after he mysteriously vanished. I haven't played RE3 yet but I am pretty sure that in this one, the Umbrella Corporation creates the Nemesis (a super mutant zombie thing which uses a variation of the T-Virus) to hunt down and destroy the surviving members of the STARS team so that they are unable to prove all of the Umbrella Corporation's wrong doings. In my opinion, RE4 is the best. The camera angles never bothered me in the other RE games but it just seemed a lot easier to control in RE4 with the third person view. I would definitely recommend getting it. And keep an ear out for Wesker in RE4, there are a few references to him but he doesn't actually show up.

got re4, gonna break it out later today

went to eb games to return 0 since it was both broken and had an interface i didn't like (the fixed camera thing). the one in the mall wouldn't let me return it for cash, wouldn't give me store credit, and didn't have a functioning copy of the same game to give me... so they sent me to a diff eb games store.

but the nice lady there let me trade it in for store credit, which i used to help buy re4... can't wait to play it.

In what order were the RE games made?

1, 2, 3, 4, 0
0, 1, 2, 3, 4 ( i think 0 is a prequel so i dont think this is right)
1, 2, 3, 0, 4
or some other order?

theres no re5 game is there?

also the game is like 30 or 40 on amazon.com, but only $20 for a new copy in stores? is that price right? since its eb games they dont keep the disks in the original box, so theres no way to be sure its really new, other than i dont think that they would cheat you.

but has it been out long enough for $20 to be the right price?

maybe, but i doubt it since it has won so many awards. if you got it for 20 though i wouldnt complain, used or not.

i beleive it was along the lines of 1,2,3,0,4...but there were a few other ones tossed in there randomly.

I guess its okay if i got it used, I got the 1 year warrenty for the extra $2.

Untitled fourth film (TBA) "

IMDB lists resident evil: afterlife for 2006, where as wiki lists resident evil extinction as tba and another res evil movie as tba...

don't know which if either is right, does anyone have more info? either way way i'm looking forward to the next movie... its what got me into the game. re4 rocks so far, i like the 3rd person shooter feel way more than the set camera stuff of re0.

I played through RE4 on the GC 11 times; each time with a different primary weapon. There is NO game that awe struck me as this game. I plan on getting the PS2 version when I get my widescreen HDTV. If anyone here is interested in selling the PS2 port of RE4 I will take it off of your hands.

I think re4 might be better on gamecube based on wiki saying

Quote :
"However, Resident Evil 4, which introduced drastic changes to the storyline and gameplay (including a new camera and aiming system), was originally released as a GameCube exclusive, but has been ported to the PlayStation 2 with added content from the GameCube original. Due to technical limitations of the PlayStation 2, several graphical effects (such as lighting effects) were missing and the cut-scenes in the game were converted to movie files (as opposed to being rendered in real time)"

i heard the controls were just plain better on the cube. either way though, re4 IS the newest one and the best. i played a few of the others for a bit (namely 1 shortly, and 2 with a friend, very breif stint in 3), but never bothered to finish them.

ps the second movie felt more like a video game, even if it was crappier than the first.

the game is awesome, i just encountered chainsaw zombie things for the first time... crazyness

wiki said for ps2
"cut-scenes in the game were converted to movie files (as opposed to being rendered in real time)"

^that doesn't sound like enough to detract from such a great game. i say get the game, its definetly worth it.

^^as for the movies, since i got into them before the game, i went in expecting a movie, not a video game and enjoyed them. but according to imdb & wiki there atleast 1 or 2 movies planned, so theres a chance for them to redeem themself. i enjoyed xmen & lotr even though they weren't exact matches to the original story.

i'm trying to avoid spoilers for re4... that in mind, can anyone tell me how to get more ammo... i keep running out now that i'm getting into more difficult areas... and I don't see the shop guy selling ammo. i keep selling guns so that i can buy new guns that i have collected ammo for. is there any better way? thanks

so far its the creepiest game i've played on gamecube.

the furthur into the game you go, the less that problem will be. in the very beginning i was getting low on a few guns, but about 30% of the way into it you get so much that you dont know what to do with it. you may run out for one gun but you'll never be struggling overall.

that said, just explore and really make those shots count (in the head!). dont fight randomly if you dont have to.

Need help w/ a boss

The big guy... during the cut scene you shoot an explosive barrel nearby and some of his body comes off to reveal his a monster. And if you fight him futher his legs break off and he swings around with his tentacle things.

I've found a place where I can stand and kill his first form with all head shots where he can't fight back. I use all my explosives and bullets (the ones i bring with me, and all the ones available in the barn room that we're fighting in) on the 2nd form... I even shoot the explosive barrels. The second form never dies, even after i'm out of ammo, doing crazy dodging, and just knife fighting him for a while, nothing.

Are there any tips for beating him? And incase I can't, are there cheats for this game?

Also I think I'm fighting the game on normal difficulty, is there any way to switch it to easy without losing my progress?

if you're talking about the rasputin looking spider guy

what i did was during his first form climbed up stairs and hid behind this metal sheet thing in the rafters and sniped his spine through this tiny little hole til he broke in half...i think the spine is the more tender spot, not the head at this point

i had bought a rocket launcher and hit his second form with that...instant kill

__

if you don't have a rocket launcher all i can suggest is to try and snipe/shotgun him to death when he gets close

and there aren't any cheats for the GC game to my knowledge, just sometimes glitches

i stayed up on the rafters the whole fight. the first form i just sniped him like you gusy did. then when he came upstairs i blasted him shotgun styles. he only knocked me off once, then i just shot him some more and he died. perhaps i got lucky.

I sold my upgraded weaponry and went for a midlevel gun and a rocket launcher. snipered him through the first form with the gun, then blew him up with the rocket launcher... killed him. now i've moved on to a castle where the enemies seem endless... probably as far as i'll get to tonight.

If you are having trouble with conserving ammo, just shoot the zombies in the leg with the handgun then when they are kneeling, suplex or roundhouse kick them to the face.

I'm fighting Saddler now... only fought his first form once, but I think I did really well. If i try again and buy first aid spray first I think I'll be straight. It did take a bit to catch onto the hitting him with steel bars, at first I was only going for his leg eyes. I suppose he also multiple forms as is often the case with hideous monsters.

Since you are the end of the game now, I will now tell you the secret to making Saddler an easy victim for Leon. Save EVERY frag grenade throughout the game, and when you get to Saddler, equip them and each one will bring the metamorphic Saddler to his knees, thus you can do the knife attack each time he goes down. The method makes defeating Saddler a walk in the park.

Yes, the rifle is almost a necessity.

Saddler isn't all that hard to defeat on the Normal difficulty setting. On the Professional setting, he is about twice as hard to beat.
