Heavy is megadeath as an example

Melodic would be some of metallicas symphonic suites.

Folk metal, I have no idea, It'd probably be some indy shit.

Death, doom, vampre, dragons, and lotr metal, are just horseshit industry terms.

The closest thing I can think of to folk metal would be Skyclad. They definitely have a heavy Irish and Celtic folk influence, evidenced by all the violin, accordion and fiddle in their works.

I debated giving my own descriptions of all the major metal genres, but really this is a much better explanation, and includes several examples of each:

http://www.bnrmetal.com/pages/genres.htm

Edit: Actually read all the link, and it actually does have folk metal listed, with Skyclad as the main example. Go me.
