he's right on
He had help last year having 4 #1 draft picks on his squad
he's brought a bunch of total newbies (great recruits though, which is also to his credit) into a team that will most def. make the NCAA Tournament.
Yes, the media loves them and that'll help their entry into the Tourney and yes, the "mystique" of being a b-ball player at UNC helps his recruiting...but he's still done great
I was expecting UNC to be a total bust and in the bottom 4 of the ACC this year. I was wrong. 2/13/2006 12:55:12 AM |

Underated compared to K, Calhoun, and Izzo. He really should be talked about for coach of the year and mentioned as much as these 3. 2/13/2006 1:15:40 AM |

I just have a scary feeling that these guys will end up going deep in the tourney. A championship coach can do that to ya.. 2/13/2006 1:16:36 AM |

agreed, they have a lot of young talent and if they get a good draw we may see them Elite 8 and maybe further... 2/13/2006 1:18:11 AM |

I don't think he should win but he is for sure top 3, Pearl, JT3, and Roy. 2/13/2006 1:19:42 AM |

Surely that title goes to Virginia's Dave Leitao, or someone else who is constantly under the radar. Yeah Roy lost 4 #1 draft picks and only has only one returning player to add leadership but the man has been coaching for so many years now it would be hard to doubt that he could be able to turn a problem like Carolina around as fast as he has even people including me thought they would have a rougher year than this.
I don't consider Roy underrated unless you were totally dismissing his ability to coach in the first place. He ranks up there with Coach K in my books, because the number of title to your name is not the only designator of a great coach. I mean a statement like that about Roy seems to almost discredit all his previous success at Kansas and the work he has been doing over the years to get him this far. 2/13/2006 9:44:56 AM |
