I got this in email today and I thought it would be a good starter for a conversation (argument) in here:

But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist. eh... it has a lot of valid points. White Society (loosely used here) doesn't have any truly horrible descriptions that evoke rage from the general white populas. Cracker? Honkey? The Man? Whitey? pah nothing. None of those have developed the strong racial slur power as "Nigger" or "Kike". Towelhead is like calling me Honkey. Not too bad. Sand nigger, and Chink are deep rooted racial slurs.

Now I do agree that this "Black Pride" thing has gotten to the point that's it's overboard. I also think that public schools requiring an even race requirement is stupid. I'm not going to go into that deeper.

I agree completely with the white holliday. I remember in high school I brought this up on Martin Luther king day. We were to come up with good arguements of that day and I stood in front of the class and discussed this exact situation. Do you know what happened? I got reamed by a black classmate who tried to say that because we held them in slavery we owe them.

I fought back with "I don't remember owning slaves, nor my father or fathers father. Hell you have to go back 4 generations to find ANYONE in my family that held slaves. Sure there were racists in my family... i bet we all had them but that was 60 years ago. Most of your parents weren't born then.

I'm all for supporting your rights but you aren't African Americans!!! You are black. A lot of your didn't even originate from Africa. But this is a pointless arguement that spawns only hate so I won't do it.

You don't see Chinese citizens or Veitnamese refugees going on about equal rights? Indians don't complain half as much and hell we stole their land and killed most of them. They call themselves Americans. They don't continually quote their heritage as a reason to get free shit. Indians get tax breaks and such and areas of their own lands to live on. The reason you don't hear too much is that their demands aren't unreasonable and they usually get it. (trying not to go into detail here)

My point is... the black community does not feel part of America and therefore thinks we "owe' them something for their situation. Did you know that most blacks in the united states make an average of 25.000 to $31,000. Did you realize this is a gain of about $6000 from 1994-2000? (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1365/is_6_35/ai_n8591075).

That's a little shy of the White Average income. So what is the cause of all the black pride start? Simple... a culture has formed... it varies but generally the black male is very outspoken sometimes crude and very dominating. Look around... at your friends that are black. Look on the street when you walk down it or while you're in a restaurant. You'll notice two distinct cultures. You have the conformed meaning they act politely, they are kind, they smile just like most of us do. Then you'll see the angry black man which there is a plenthora. Rude, loud, obnoxious, and blames all their hardships on the man.

There is still a far greater number of the second type in black culture due to poor economic standing, and the simple fact it's "cool" to be "laid back". In Athens Drive High School... this was overly apparant. I'm not saying this for everyone but for my experience. In College, it's different. I'm also not saying whites or any other race don't have the same. It's that black culture accepts them and it's cool to be that way. It's okay to relax and not work hard within that sub group.

That group is sigificantly large portion of the population with blacks than it is with whites. Whether this is due to ecomonic, upbringing, value systems, etc... I don't know. But it's sure as hell not "The Man".

Most successful black's do not act like the accepted "black man". It's a culture difference and I know the anger comes from the fact that you can't stay in that sub group and succeed easily... so why try?

This whole topic pisses me off. I'm done.

And to address the topic:

Black pride is a solidarity movement aimed at undoing the lingering racism of the past. It's not aimed at hurting whites; only at advancing an ethnic group that has been held back for the past 400 or so years. They also seek to revive a culture that has been repressed for just as long.

White pride, on the other hand, is very different. Caucasian people have not been oppressed, nor have their cultures been stymied. White pride as we know it is specifically aimed at hurting another ethnic group. You can have Irish, Scottish, Italian, whatever pride, and it's perfectly acceptable. White pride is nothing but hatred for minorities.

we will always have a race/ethnic problem in this country because nobody can get passed skin color. I hate race based affirmative action I think it should be based on economics not skin color. I know a guy that did the same. Still, I don't think this is exactly what he is referring to. Race related scholarship to go to any school > race related scholarship to go to a handful of schools.

If I knew anything about my ancestry I might be interested in learning more about it and taking pride in it... but I don't know anything about it, and from the brief search I've done, my mother and fathers side of the family both have English names. Who wants to be English?
