did a search, found a few topics about gaming mice, not really what I'm looking for
I've been using an optical microsoft mouse for about a year and it's dying.. I had a white version of the same model that gave out within a year as well, the one that just died is black.. use it for about 15 min and then the LEDs inside the mouse dim and it wont work. unplug, plug back in, it'll work for another 10 min before going out again..
anyways, I'm going to assume the avg. life of an optical mouse is more than 12 months, as my balled mice lasted 8 years and are still workin fine
just lookin for a cheap, comfortable mouse that will last a while suggustions? 2/16/2006 7:48:17 PM |

ive had my microsoft optical mouse for several years, probably since 2001 or 2002... maybe even earlier. ive never had a problem with it
sounds like you just have bad luck with MS... try a logitech maybe? ive never had one, but i know people who swear by them ] 2/16/2006 7:52:30 PM |

You get what you pay for.
just break down and buy a $40 mouse from BB with a warranty. with your luck, I'd def buy it. 2/16/2006 7:58:04 PM |

$40 mice have all the nice buttons and the sqishy scroll wheel, which I dont like nor do I need
my mice were $20 each from best buy, and have 5 star reviews on newegg.. so yeah, maybe just bad luck.. 2/16/2006 8:21:29 PM |

At work we got a batch of optical mice with computers at the same time and they all ended up dying within a couple of months of each other. It was very interesting and seemed to point out that it was because of poor-quality components not just random occurrences. 2/16/2006 8:27:13 PM |

just because a mouse has 18 buttons on it doesn't mean you have to use them.
the quality of my MX1000 is unrivaled. 2/16/2006 8:40:12 PM |

pretty much any logitech mouse is a good mouse. the click's a pretty good corded mouse for the price and doesn't have alot of goofy features you won't use.

found the issue with my current mouse.. took it apart, looked at the cord, where it makes a 90 degree bend to exit the case is a rather bad crease. If I straiten the crease the lights go out
how bad would it be if I just spliced the cord? I guess I'll just tape the bend inplace for now, thinking about the Logitech MX518.. I'm not exactly a hardcore gamer, but it got good reviews and buy.com has one for 35, newegg for 38
thanks 2/16/2006 10:20:43 PM |

^ the 510 is just as good, and I like the button placement better. you can still get it from tiger direct too.
They're both great mice. 2/16/2006 10:25:14 PM |

I have the Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 that I use at work (replaced by a MX510 at home). Have it it for years and still works like a charm. Most comfortable mouse I ever owned.

yeah, that guy. basic, cheap, comfortable mouse with a poor wire layout that pinches the main cord

I've had mine for years. The only problem I have is that every once in a blue moon the cursor just zips off to one corner of the screen. It really sucks for FPS games - one instant you're fine and the next instant you're spinning in circles. 2/17/2006 12:05:01 PM |

^^ yeah i figured that was the model, i've had problems with them too.
i would recommend the basic logitech optical mouse. great quality, wont have to worry about it breaking 2/17/2006 12:53:33 PM |

^^ yeah for some reason the older shittier optical mice did that, even some of the higher end old ones too.
I've never had a problem of that type with any of the newer logitechs, or even the newer microsoft mice. 2/17/2006 7:06:07 PM |

meh. got the logitech MX518 its nice, fits my hand well not used to how smooth the top is, all my other mice had some sort of grip or just roughness of plastic.. the 518 has a very smooth shiny surface
the changable resolution, which translates to cursor speed, is nice. its built into the mouse, so it works fine with fedora (one of my slight concerns)
thanks for comments and suggustions 2/17/2006 7:17:29 PM |
