They're basically a business-oriented research group, one of the most influential orgs in the state. The most visible thing they produce is a book that details every legislative district in the state, including district stats, its political leaning, and profiles on the candidates -- and a forecast of the electoral results, where they've had 95%+ accuracy for as long as I can remember.

As for the job details, they're looking for someone full-time who can handle the IT-related work but also has an interest in politics.

You'd work at their office downtown (currently in my building, 5 W Hargett St, but they're moving at some point).

Salary is negotiable but will probably be in a range between $26K-$30K.

Agreed. 30k is a rough equivalent to $15/hr ... most coops make more than that. It's a good position for somebody interested in politics ... dunno how much luck you'll have finding a technical person with a BS at that salary.

Might want to try posting at ECPI or a similar technical institute.

if you get a somewhat skilled csc grad to work for 30k a year , you can be a hiring manager any day

After talking with them today, I think this is what they're hoping for -- someone taking the job as a resume-builder who just happens to be technically inclined. I'd try to do myself but influence-peddling is much more fun
