Herb and Chuck, for practical purposes, "do not care about Carolina"


they're more worried about the entirety of their seasons, and always bring their A-game for the leading teams

i.e. Duke, VT, FSU


Chuck and Herb have never brought their A-game for Carolina unless Carolina has been at the top. They practically ALWAYS under-prepare mentally for Carolina and teams like GT.

which is exactly what they SHOULD be doing. i don't want beating carolina to be the focal point of our season.

i'm sorrry but going 2-14 in the ACC and sweeping UNC is NOT a success in my book. Potentially finishing 2nd with a record of 12-4 and getting swept by UNC is. Right now Herb is doing something far more important than worrying about beating one team, he is returning our program to prominence. 21 wins? that's fantastic compared to where this program has been for the last 20 years. this isn't the peak, he is still climbing. we have awesome recruits coming in the next few years, and there is no reason why this success should cease to continue. this process is far more important than a win against unc. once our program is reestablished as a perennial top-25, top-15 type team (and it WILL be under Herb), that's when we can start worrying about rivalries created by our fans as more of a priority.

^^^I'll definitely agree with you, but ^fabrication? You're not rational. It's very important to beat those teams like Carolina because you're flirting with success in the tournaments. Roy Williams, per se, is a Championship coach. Those dudes will be down the road later for us to meet, and that's a guarantee. Of course, that's independent of "rivalry" in the terms that a lot of those Championship teams aren't in our conference but UNC/STATE is in fact a fucking rivalry; created by fans or no...

In a list of things important in my life, hating Carolina (especially their backwards, baseless unjustified excuses for fans) is on higher echelon of this list. Within the coming weeks, I'm taking steps to regroup our fanbase in respect to unite everyone who shares the same hatred as I do.

almost all rivalries are created by fans of the teams involved. i'm not saying it doesn't exist, i'm just saying it's less important than the overall success of our basketball team. if you think our players should care more about beating carolina than winning the conference, i have to disagree.

^exactly. this rivalry was started largely because we hate their fans. their fans have always been obnoxious asses and are the exact reason i've always hated carolina as well. that emphasizes my point about this rivalry being created by the fans. it isn't the carolina players that made their fanbase act this way, it's all the wal-mart fans that never even went to unc but chose to brag about "their" team's success when they are good.

our players and coaches do not encounter this like we do as fans. they just focus on the big picture. it would be different if it was something like the chris paul/julius hodge situation, where an opposing player actually did something directly to someone on our team. you can be damn sure our guys were more motivated to beat wake in the acc tourney after that.

so you can disagree with me if you want to, but we as fans DID create this rivalry.

The rivalry isn't what it was... but at one point it was out for blood. We haven't threatened UNC in so long, it's dwindled... but the hatred is still there. Nowadays, its more State fans envy becuase we've fallen off of the wagon

This is pure conjecture but I get the feeling that Roy puts MORE stress on the State-UNC rivalry then Duke-UNC. You can see it in his face during the games. The end of game foul/sub only makes me feel that more..

He's also subtly mentioned that in the press..
