Thanks for posting this. There was a period of time when one of my cousins was suspected of being autistic and so many people in my family were bent on having him labelled that they were ignoring his talents.

i'm sure this story will get around in the autism community, how encouraging is that for other people with autism? What a great story! [Edited on February 28, 2006 at 9:50 AM. Reason : ]

3/14/2006 3:17:15 PM
hahaha, christ, the president has to do a photo-op with an autistic child to help his approval ratings.
3/14/2006 3:34:37 PM
who cares about his approval ratings? this is his last term.
3/14/2006 3:47:04 PM
i hate to be the asshole in all this, but the sun shines on a dogs ass once and awhileit isnt that big of a deal, people are acting like the kid just saved the fucking worldbig fucking deal
3/14/2006 3:47:07 PM
Yeah, its not like he's deaf and gets hit by a train that sounded its horn the whole time[Edited on March 14, 2006 at 3:57 PM. Reason : .]

i know someone who is autisic and functions quite well as a human being, i am no DR but i am sure there is different levels of autism, some are worse than others, i dunnobut obviously this kid isnt that bad off, but everyone wants to make him out to be some fucking completely retarded kid cause it makes for a good story and people can make money off it
3/14/2006 4:13:20 PM
^^ no, I see where he's coming from. n/m - this is where i'm coming from then.... Is it great and wonderful that this kid overcame his personal and society's obstacles and accomplished something no one thought possible? Absolutely - i thought it made a great story and the video is truely touching. But is it something worthy of national attention for 3 weeks, movie offers by Magic Johnson, and a trip from the damned President? Sorry, but no, not really. This is something that could be celebrated with his family and friends and support of his town, but it's not necessary of a national media event.[Edited on March 14, 2006 at 4:16 PM. aww people are jealous of the autistic boy
3/14/2006 4:18:57 PM
it really is too bad the vets of many of our wars from times past never got the same recognition when they came back to the country as this kid does by playing in a b-ball game
3/14/2006 4:20:50 PM
like what, threads on tww? hahah i havent even heard about this shit irl
3/14/2006 4:24:57 PM
it's not like he won the game for them, they were already up by double digits. he's just being a dick and running up the score.
3/14/2006 4:56:36 PM
3/14/2006 5:15:53 PM
this is great because it shows that unbelievably good things can still happen in this worldeven if the kid was normal it would be a great storyits like forest gump running accross the country, "it gave people hope"
3/14/2006 10:58:58 PM
Herb should recruit him and put Atsur on the bench next year.
3/14/2006 11:02:38 PM
I LOVE special children. I coached various sports (including basketball) for a few years in high school for Special Olympics, and we had some autistic kids-they are exceptionally awesome in my eyes. I really miss coaching and wish I had time to do it now for Wake county, but I just can't. Maybe after graduation.[Edited on March 14, 2006 at 11:04 PM. Reason : d]
