Anyone know any hispanic movies that are good representations of women, with good meaning how they are in real life be it subservient, the activist etc... or any good websites just on hispanic women in film. 2/25/2006 8:11:28 PM |

El Crimen de Padre Amaro, I think, would fit the bill.
Uh, Amores Perros has some interesting female characters. I would definitely recommend it as a film, at least. 2/25/2006 8:21:29 PM |

There's also an American film called Nine Lives that just came out on DVD. It's in English, but the first of the nine vignettes is about a Hispanic woman. It's interesting. The film was directed by Rodrigo Garcia, who is Gabriel Garcia Marquez's son. 2/25/2006 8:31:31 PM |

this may be a bit off from what you're looking for, but Maria llena de gracia is a film about a young lady who was a drug smuggler... apparently it was (is?) common for women to do that. Either way, it is a great film.

I just watched that not too long ago. You can always check out Frida. If you want to get really hokey, there's the romantic comedy Fools Rush In.2/26/2006 3:17:18 PM |
