Bet's on how long it takes the "NASCAR isn't a sport" trollers to find this?
I'll never forget being at Charlotte when the field came around the first time... some of the cars were a little loose. Me and my buddies all had sports cars... one of them looked at me and said "spinning out at 180 mph, and holding the line. Can you imagine that shit?" 2/26/2006 1:50:28 PM |

Right when the race starts, they will appear
Also, Cali is Michigan......barely a difference......this will come down to gas mileage, unless they bullshit and pull the green-white-checkered....again like they somehow keep doing.....I remember when NASCAR would ignore the last lap crash and let them go for the win.........what happened?

What's the over-under for debris cautions? I say six. 2/26/2006 2:31:03 PM |

^^That was exciting, because about 7 times out of 10 there was a last lap wreck.
Anyone remember seeing it or the clips of Richard Petty crossing the finish line upside down for the win? That was some awesome shit right there. (He lives like 2 miles maybe from my house, and the museum is about 4 miles away.)

haha^the green-white has been flying a lot lately... but I don't recall how often the checkered used to fly on the caution, so I'm not one to say...
But I would bet that it's starting to come into the minds of the crewchiefs for last pits... mileage.

Yeah it was just stupid that they threw the caution at the end of the 500...the wreck was behind the majority of the field, the rest of the field is going to see the wreck before they see a yellow light...let them race back to the line at least. It wouldnt have changed the winner, but at least given us a real finish...I think all three races last weekend had a margin of victory of "under caution". 2/26/2006 3:10:37 PM |

I also do not like the "pausing" of the field during the a caution during the race.....this takes a lot of the old strategies of racing back to the line then pits stops out.......all well......let us began 2/26/2006 3:28:12 PM |

There's a part of a race 2-3 years ago you should see. Dale Jarrett wrecked on the frontstretch and was pretty much sideways at New Hampshire. There was a car that the leader did not want to give a lap back to and of course you have 5-6 cars all around trying to get in front of the leader. Jarrett had taken his belts off when his crew got on the phone and told him to keep them on. Really big mess that forced NASCAR's hand to what they have now. It's needless to have them race back to the flag, especially if the wreck was serious enough to warrant immediate attention to the wreck from an ambulance.
I hate Larry McReynolds, just to let everyone know. Fox, please fire him.2/26/2006 4:19:37 PM |

When they came out with that rule (the pausing of the field) they did not address the last lap, what would happen.....the first time a last lap crash happened, everyone still raced back to the win. NASCAR made the green-white-checkered to battle this, that rule sucks.......if there is a crash, you race back to the caution.....you race back to the win.....pausing the field is stupid....any old real NASCAR fan laughs at that rule...they call it the pussy pause....on top of that they added the lucky dog rule....wtf is that...the bitch rule.....you earn your lap back, you want your lap back you fucking hit the leader and take it......That is what NASCAR was and what it has lost..... 2/26/2006 4:33:11 PM |

Earn it back? If a caution came out, the leader would slow down and half the field would drive by to get their lap back. That's not earning it, that was getting a free pass from the leader. I don't like the Lucky Dog rule either, but don't act like what happened before was "racing".
And I am a (relatively) old NASCAR fan for 18 years, racing back to the caution is still stupid. They can call it a pussy pause all they want, the day someone died because they got T-boned while lying across the frontstretch by someone racing back (especially if it was a popular driver that died), the response wouldn't be pretty.
Debris caution #1.2/26/2006 4:42:13 PM |
vonjordan3 AIR 43669 Posts user info edit post |
You are correct, in the late 90s they would slow down and let people pass, that did not happen back in the 80s...you earned it....and that WAS the way it happened....and how many people died because of it...the day someone died?.....How many races were won because the leader would not let anyone get there lap back? Nothing you can say can defend a last lap crash that "pauses" the field right where they are at. Let’s take the Daytona Truck race.....what would have happened in the old system? Mark would have had to race for the win...there would have been no caution finish.....in the old days, if there was a caution finish, then there was a huge crash and the could not justify red flagging it....and how often was that?
Lets get back to the race...the ego trip is gay

I'm just saying I hate all races like this. I hope you've noticed there hasn't been a single wreck yet which I blame on not competitive racing caused by the track. these races are usually dominated by one or two drivers and then won on the final pitstop or some driver that gets lucky and can make it on fuel while the best cars have to pit

basically, nascar's intentions with moving a second race to the LA market was to incorporate a lot of hollywood flare to it. and, it figured it'd get to do it twice as much with two races. well, the Las Vegas race is only two weeks away, and a lot of it is a shared market. if you had the choice...would you go to Las Vegas or Fontana? Hmm....Vegas baby! so, obviously it's blown up in their faces. which is perfect, in my opinion. the labor day race in cali seems to be a bigger draw because the market isn't as saturated with races that time of year. it breaks tradition totally, but the cali race labor day weekend (minus the crazy hot weather) was actually a good move. 2/27/2006 9:46:44 AM |
