This is just weird. Why did they include Radiohead - Kid A on this? And Somebody Told Me over Mr. Brightside? And... wow. Thats all I can really say.

all I can say is that having any of the killers songs on this list makes it suck balls.

It's Esquire. I wouldn't expect them to be good at this.

it's funny because kid a was nowhere near the best song on that radiohead album.

haha, I am pretty sure that Johnny Cash covering Nine Inch Nails is -not- the best song of the 21st century, but I'll go with it.

the absence of "Get Low" from that list instantly makes it illegitimate

kind of presumptuous to try to find the best song of the 21st century when we're only starting the 6th year of it...

"Hurt" was one of the few songs on that list that was actually decent.

Isn't Mr. Brightside a cover of an 80s song anyway? Can that really qualify as a 21st century song?

...

"Hurt" was a cover of a '90s song.

So you'd throw that out too?

i cant decide between 'hey ya' and 'float on'.

i also dont know if i picked the right choices all along the way.

kid A is in my final four, i just think it's not one of radiohead's better songs, nor one of the better songs on the kid A album.

edit: i chose 'hey ya'

what the mother fuck? how is 'hurt' winning by so much? it's not that good

I assume The White Stripes will have to win. They've been declared the dominant band of the post-Radiohead era. But since Kid A was apparently 2000, I guess it could go that way. And for all the backlash, The Strokes really are as good as they think they are. I don't know what the fuck more people want from them. Someday would be my choice from them. Float On is probably too catchy to be cool enough for people. Of course, I'd take The Arcade Fire over all of them. Funeral is amazing from start to finish.

However, there is only one album released since 2000 that can be argued as the greatest album in rock history, and the best song has to come from it. Brian Wilson's masterpiece, Smile. It's hard to say what a song is, as this is the album that actually transcends even the concept album and is in fact a kind of symphony. He was so far ahead of his time, 40 years later, he's still way ahead of his time. I think, if necessary, we can single out Surfs Up. It is surely as good as any piece of music produced since the advent of recording technology.

Exactly. I almost threw up when I saw it. I'm extremely happy it's in last place right now.
