Thursday at 3 PM. There's a cap now, so you probably won't see teams like Detroit loading up on every good veteran player as in the past, but I'm still expecting a few big deals. Mark Recchi, Oli Jokinen, Dwayne Roloson, Roberto Luongo, and Mark Parrish are some players that I would expect to change teams by the deadline. I've heard that the Canes might have an interest in Parrish, but I honestly don't think they will make any major moves (the Weight deal was their big trade).

Messing with the chemistry is not what the team needs right now. Weight is starting to fit in. Cole will be back by playoff time. Ladd or Big Joe can fill in the wing slot that's opened by bumping people into Cole's slot.

This team is already playing super-hard and getting it done when they need to. Hell, they won last night and they didn't even get a shot in the third.

This team was not built on "significant pickups", and it shouldn't be now.

Ladd did well before the olympic break in the few games he played in. I think he'll be able to contribute.

the team might not be built on big pickups but just about every team that thinks they have a legitamate shot at making a run at the cup picks somebody up at the deadline especailly if a key cog is hurt.

and this year there is more time than usual between the deadline and the end of the season so unike seasons in the past teams only had 9 or 10 games to become accustomed to their new teammates, now they have about double that. So i dont beleive chemistry problems will be as much of an issue as in years past

The Wild have been rumoured to be shopping one of their goalies, and Roloson was the odd man out after the team re-signed Fernandez last week."

the canes do need to make a trade in order to fill the void left by Cole's injury.

they will

plus they need to look to the future. Weight is gone next year and if Cole is sidelined indefinitely then we are up shit's creek with a turd for a paddle next year, unless we make a trade.

To LA Kings: Mark Parrish, Brent Sopel
To NY Islanders: Denis Grebeshkov, Jeff Tambellini

To Toronto: Luke Richardson
To Columbus: 5th round draft pick (2006)

To San Jose: Ville Nieminen
To NY Rangers: 3rd round pick (2006)

Interesting that the Leafs are buying even though they are starting to slip from the playoff race. Guess the Parrish to Carolina rumors are put to rest now.

Theodore is hurt though, right?

There's gotta be something else going here. This doesn't make sense

Yep, Theodore is hurt. He should be back for the playoffs, but until then, the Avs are in the middle of a wide open race for playoff positioning in the West. Hell, Anaheim is in 9th place and they are only 6 points behind the Avs with 3 games in hand. Not sure what Colorado is thinking, but Montreal just got a $5.3 million salary off of their hands.

Maybe they'll grab Morrison off waivers or something.

I still think something else is cooking here. Though the Avs have had success with former Canadians goalies who fell on hard times

The Canes need to fill some toughness and gritt on their team. They have no one that will fight(drop the gloves) or stick up for the top end players on the team. They are the Sens from a few years ago. They are soft, take a look at the replay of EC hit. There was no one there to get in the guys face. The canes are a soft team going into the playoffs.

Enforcers have no place in the playoffs; fighting has already gone down with the new rules, and it will be extinct in the playoffs. Who on the active roster would an enforcer replace? Boulerice wasn't playing before the Canes traded him, and it would be no different with someone else.

He could replace one of the several fourth line players that the Canes have playing on their third and fourth line.

I want the canes to do well just like everyone else but they are like the Sens in 2001 and 03 and 04 they are soft.

Prime example Cole gets run and there is no one there to do anything.

Monday night Vermet gets run by someone from tampa and you have everone on the ice ready to take the guy out.

Talk shit all you want but the canes are soft.

But they're #1 in the league..

having someone fight is not going to help when we need people who can score.

Sure, I'd like to see someone beat some ass to avenge Erik Cole, but guess what? It wouldn't magically take the injury away.

"The New Jersey Devils continued to bolster their blueline, acquiring defenceman Brad Lukowich from the New York Islanders for a third-round pick in 2006."

Also, Gratton has signed a new deal in Florida, and TSN is reporting that Jokinen may be off the trade block now.

Jokinen surprised some people and resigned with Florida this afternoon for 4 years. Looks like the Sens may be left in the dust at this point. Carolina stole both Weight and Recchi, and now Jokinen is going nowhere.

The Phoenix Coyotes have acquired defenceman Jamie Rivers from the Detroit Red Wings for a seventh-round pick.

Surely the Wings aren't gonna let a trade deadline pass without buying someone.

Well, the Wings have made their big deadline deal. Yes, folks, you can go ahead and put the Cup in Detroit, because CORY CROSS has been traded to the Red Wings. They give up a 2007 4th round pick.
