i know this has nothing to do with cars or anything (well it could depending on the job) but anyways... I am going to be living in the downtown area of charleston, sc this summer and need to find a job. Anyone familiar with the area and know of any good places to work. I mean I know all about the hundreds of stores and shit on King St. but I was just thinking of some alternatives. I like physical work so I have thought about construction and possibly the ship yards doing something. Any ideas would be great 3/13/2006 11:41:29 AM |

If you can't go there early for a couple weekends and search for jobs in person, just search the Charleston classifieds.
Are you just going down there to live for the summer at your leisure or for a specific reason? 3/13/2006 3:49:19 PM |

not real sure, but i had no problem finding a job for this summer down there.
i'm going to be working with the charleston riverdogs (minor league team) on the grounds crew. not the best job, but it could be worse.
good luck 3/13/2006 3:55:36 PM |

There are several yacht clubs in the area that need seasonal help. Its more sucking up to rich people than hard labor, but you get to be outside. 3/13/2006 4:49:33 PM |

living for leisure and friends down there. can't return to the parent's place again, way too stressful dealing with the family all summer and not really wanting to stay here so trying something different. Thanks for the suggestions and i didn't even think of yacht clubs. thanks 3/13/2006 7:22:03 PM |

I was a cart boy at Kiawah Island 2 summers ago. You can pull in $100 easy on any afternoon, but the downside is that it is 45 min away from downtown. 3/13/2006 9:11:55 PM |

I live in Charleston. I am a Mech Engineer and I design armored vehicles for our boys in Iraq. They are basically heavy ass 4x4 and 6x6 trucks. My company is always looking for interns who are engineering majors. It is about 15 min outside of Charleston. You would be making drawings and 3d solid models of random automotive parts. Knowledge of heavy steel fabrication and welding techniques would be helpful. It will also look pretty good on a resume. PM me and I will give you the info. If you want to apply, I will put in a good word for you, but only if you support Herb Sendek.
