Ernest Jones from #45 to #5
John Dunlap from #82 to #1
Ray Michel from #43 to #44 - sure would be a good time to have alot of fumbles associated with #44, lol
Jerrail McCuller from #67 to #50
Pat Bedics from #46 to #4
Guerlin Dervil went from #35 to #11 back to #35

Gerard Miller listed as OL

Before Mario, I didn't think linemen could be single digits or under 20. I guess in college the numbers are different from the NFL.

From Wikipedia:

Quote :
"A rigid system of assignment of jersey numbers was initiated in American football's NFL in 1973; other levels of the game (including NCAA college football) apply no such restrictions except on the offensive and defensive lines in order to identify eligible receivers.

Numbers 1 to 19 are worn by quarterbacks, kickers and punter.
Wide receivers are now allowed to wear numbers between 10 and 19 if they so choose, even if there's an 80-89 number available.
Numbers 20 to 49 are worn by running backs, cornerbacks and safeties.
Numbers 50 to 59 are worn by linebackers and offensive lineman.
Numbers 60 to 79 are worn by members of both the offensive line (the tackles, guards and centers) and defensive line (the defensive ends, defensive tackles and nose guard).
Numbers 80 to 89 are worn by wide receivers and tight ends.
Numbers 90 to 99 are worn by linebackers and members of the defensive line.
Numbers 0 and 00 are not issued at any level, though they were issued in the NFL before the number standardization in 1973. "

there was a thing about college football numbers last season on gameday

Major changes:

- Darrell Blackman is listed as a WR. Big, big move, IMO.
- Reggie Davis is listed as a FB. And he's huge: 246 lbs.
- James Martin is at LB instead of DE.
- Gerard Miller is back on the OL.

Minor changes:

- Geron James did indeed get the medical redshirt. He played in a couple of games, but the injury must have counted for a redshirt.
- No mention of Ray Brooks. I don't see his exclusion as anything significant, though. There's still several months for him to get his name on there. (If he was included, though, that would be a major deal.)
- Pat Bedics is at LB. I think he was being looked at for a FB. But since he hasn't seen the field yet, it's not major.
- Leroy Harris is listed as "Offensive Guard/Center" while Kalani Heppe is "Center/Offensive Guard" - does that mean Kalani has the inside track to Center and Harris will be out at Guard? I dunno. I'd like to see it, though. Put Crouch at the other guard and that's a strong interior line.

Comments:

- Crouch has lost a little weight, Heppe has put some one. Good moves in both cases.
- Hill is massive. 277 lbs??
- Quentin Brown 229 lbs? Seems awfully light. He was listed at 250 on our commit list on Scout.com two years ago.
- Really wish we had redshirted Dunlap during one of those years where he got limited playing time. Oh well, life goes on...

Quote :
"• Junior Darrell Blackman has moved from running back to wide receiver. The move was not unexpected after the emergence of sophomore running backs Toney Baker and Andre Brown last fall. Blackman has nine career receptions for 90 yards.
• Senior Reggie Davis is listed as a fullback and is noticeably bigger, checking in at 6-foot-0, 246 pounds. That is 10-pound increase from his listed weight last fall.
• Absent from the roster is defensive end Raymond Brooks. The academic status of Brooks for next fall is likely to have a major impact on the depth chart at the defensive end position in 2006. Brooks played well as a true freshman in 2004, serving as the top reserve to the duo of Manny Lawson and Mario Williams. He sat out last season however with academic issues.
• NC State will be counting on former junior college transfer Littleton Wright, and he has gotten stronger after redshirting last year. He was 6-foot-6, 230 last fall, and now he is 6-foot-6, 244.
• Pat Bedics, who will be a junior after transferring in from Penn State, is listed as a linebacker. He checks in at 6-foot-0, 249 pounds. He is sporting No. 4 these days.
• Several other players changed numbers. Junior wide receiver John Dunlap switched from No. 82 to No. 1; junior linebacker Ernest Jones is now No. 5 after being No. 45; junior linebacker Guerlin Dervil was No. 11 and is now No. 35; redshirt freshman tackle Jeraill McCuller, formerly No. 67, is now No. 50.
• On the offensive line, sophomore Curtis Crouch is listed at 6-foot-5, 344 pounds, down 10 pounds from when he arrived. Freshman Julian Williams lost 19 pounds to slim down to 6-foot-5, 292 during his redshirt year. Senior Leroy Harris gained five pounds and is now a 6-foot-3, 300-pounder. Junior Kalani Heppe has the same measurables to join Harris in the 300-pound club.
• Junior quarterback Marcus Stone is listed six pounds heavier at 236. The two players competing for the back-up jobs are stronger. Sophomore Daniel Evans is listed at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, a 10-pound improvement, while redshirt freshman Mike Greco is now 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, up from 208 this fall.
• Junior tight end Anthony Hill could make a case of being among the biggest at his position in college football. He is up seven pounds to check in at 6-foot-6, 277. His top back-up, sophomore Octavius Darby, is 11 pounds heavier at 6-foot-2, 256."

Having that beast Hill at TE, shifting Davis to FB, Blackman to WR, and adding a top FB recruit in Hickman all points to us playing a more smash-mouth style of football next year.

I would like to see some I-formations with the personnel we have.

true.

I think that getting rid of Mike Barry will be an improvement, though.

I'm really really glad Reggie Davis might actually get some PT. The guy's good and I felt terrible for him having to sit the bench all last year.

reggie davis is gonna be a blocker, maybe one or two carries a game

he's slow and not strong enough to be an effective FB

and how could you feel bad for him

he lost his job to a couple of freshmen who are leaps and bounds ahead of him in talent

that's life

I still think he was the best back we had the season before last. He seems to be every bit as fast as Baker and he seemed to have better vision than Blackman. I could never understand why they didn't use an I-formation last year, though, because he would have been a good blocker then.

FYI the numbering system isnt terrible strict in college....

if you rememeber Adrian wilson fron Tenn played DE with number 4 I believe maybe 9

lots of DE's wear single digits... I guess being huge and wearing a single number gives them the illusion of being bigger !?!? that or they just like haveing small number.s

running backs in single didgets as well

I don't think the offensive line will be too bad. As mentioned earlier Heppe/Harris/Crouch is a good threesome to have at the guards and center. The tackles will be a weakness it appears but we did have like 9 newcomers last year who should have redshirted and gotten stronger and better. We will be fine.

Two Questions:
1) Is Evans the main backup now? If so lets see him play against ASU assuming we blow them out.

2) Is Greco really gonna play QB? I could see him as an Olin Hannum type decoy/reciever/option QB
