chinos, button-down shirt, loafers.

Or dress slacks, button-down, sweater.

suit is overboard.

i've gone in semi-nice clothes, i've gone in my normal clothing. it is nice and all, but i dont think anything is expected.

you'd feel fine in a polo or button down shirt im sure.

In my experience, a charcoal necklace, a pair of grill pants, and a matchstick shirt. Because boiling filet should be illegal.

It's nice enough for a suit/tie if you feel like making it a special occasion and dressing up. However, you'd be fine in some slacks and an oxford shirt.

Everytime I go there I end up smelling like the broth because of all the steam. You may not want to wear a suit b/c you will need to have it dry cleaned afterwards.

you can wear whatever, its the place lots of trashy people go to feel classy when they want to celebrate. whatever you wear, there will be some yokel who looks worse than you.

that being said, at your age a sports coat should be the fall back for most occasions

If I were a guy I'd wear a nice shirt and pants...tie optional. If you are taking a girl and she's wearing something really nice...add the tie.

people mostly go casual

i've only been a half dozen times or so and i feel out of place with my shirt tucked in

people in raleigh tend to fall into the "money: yes, class: no" category, making it nearly impossible to have an upscale dining experience

to clarify, the melting pot isn't exactly upscale (though i love me some sauces), but neither is it the atmosphere the applebee's that people seem to think it is given the way they dress

if you having an upscale dining experiences relies on other ppl there dressing nice then you are missing out on the point of going out to EAT.

wear whatever you want, its food.

that's true for morons like you who only go to chain theaters, chain restaurants, and chain everything else.

i bet you think there's nothing to do in raleigh and that its a boring town, also - don't you?

as a general rule i don't ever set foot in a chain

don't pull your indier than thou bullshit on me - you've never even heard of anything that i've ever done, that's how out of the mainstream i am

i even get my clothes from a store where i'm the only customer and ncsu gave me a minor in anti-establishment - i'm pretty much single-handedly keeping anything unique and cultural afloat in raleigh, but you wouldn't know that because you've never been there

i bet you think you're not borderline retarded, don't you

it really depends on what time you're going and why you're going...
i went there with my family at lunch a few years ago... we all just wore casual clothing... it was summer, no big deal....
then again, a lot of people go there before proms & formals... so tuxes & prom dresses
if you're going there b/c it's a special night out (because for most college students it's extremely pricy for what you get)... then dressy casual should be just fine (if you're going w/ a girl... just ask her... you dont want to out dress her... or severely underdress in comparison... that's all that really matters)

if you are going to a fucking chain restaurant

dress as the occasion requires

b/c as long as your money spends, the people who work there wont give two shits.

^this is true....

however I can't believe all the animosity for melting pot! I've been there several times and I think the food is phenomenal. They also have an excellent wine selection and really good cocktails.

I know these things don't matter to everyone...but that's what tend to think of when "rating" a restaurant.

I rocked some black slacks and a red oxford shirt. Didnt feel over or under dressed at all.

I agree, the concept is bullshit...PAYING to have to cook your own food. In all, dinner cost me $130 including tip.

I think in the future, I'd much rather dine at Capital City Club if I want a nice dinner. Dont EVEN try to tell me that place has no class.

Seafood buffets at the beach are always where my family sticks out. It'll be like $50 a person, you know, somewhat pricey. But it's the fucking beach. Everytime, my moms is like "Dress up!" and me and my sis show up in flops and jeans. And everybody else is trying to make an event of it and be all dressy. According to my mother, we don't appreciate nice things. BUT IT'S THE BEACH! IT'S JUST A BUFFET!

Moral of the story: wear what you want. If anything, people won't consider you low class. They'll be offended that you don't value the experience enough to dress up for it. But the only reason they really value it is because they are paying x amount of money for it.

My fiance and I are memebers of their birthdays and anniversaries club, so we go whenever they send us coupons and stuff.
I've gone to the Melting Pot in a skirt. . .I've also gone to the Melting Pot in jeans.
No one really cares what you wear there.
Dress according to your date. If you're celebrating something like an anniversary, you might wanna dress up. If you're just going because you've got a hankering for fondue, wear jeans.
