I know posting Tech Deals is supposed to be a no-no. Bah. If you don't have a battery for your computer yet, this is a pretty good deal on one. You'll be thankful next time a brownout happens this summer. 3/19/2006 9:05:44 PM |

thats a nice $/VA deal, but I don't think I trust APC. I've had about three of their 350VA units and they all suck the ass. I don't remember having one that ever worked. One was so mesed up it cut power to my pc and jacked up my os installation. awesome.
but, maybe these 80va units are better. 3/20/2006 9:06:27 AM |

if you were running anything more than a p3 on a 350va then you are overloading it and should expect stability problems.

pretty much always because the circuits and wiring aren't capable of the higher loads. I had a 500va hooked up to a P4 w/ 19" crt and it (the apc battery backup) ran really hot but when I moved it to a p3 w/ 17" crt is ran much cooler to the touch. I have a Belkin 800va now on my computer and it only runs at a 41% load with a 2.8ghz p4, 1 gig ram, couple of hdds, 20.1" lcd, 200w speakers, etc. It also gives me about 10 minutes of run time off of the batteries should the power go out. 3/20/2006 9:44:00 AM |

APC has saved my ass many times.
Use them on my Xserve and dual G5 among other computers. 3/20/2006 8:24:03 PM |

I haven't had my APC long enough to know whether it's worth what I paid for it. I've heard you get at most 5 years out of one of the batteries ... and then they have the wonderful "trade-in" program to help you when it does die. 3/21/2006 5:35:54 AM |
