I am definately in favor of organizing a token of appreciation for this team's success. Let's face it, they deserve something much more than all of the "he sucks.. fire Herb.. blah blah". They just completed their fith straight NCAA appearance and now Herb is 4-1 in first round games. Enough said.

All of this negative attention is entirely inappropriate.

I feel that the students should do something to try and correct for all of this criticism. I am particularly in favor of crafting some sort of plaque and having 30+ students be present to give it to him at case.

What do you all think?

I'm in favor of doing something to show Herb and Company that there are some True Fans left out there who support them no matter what happened. They had a great season despite the slump before the tournament. GO WOLFPACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111

If this was organized to be around a pretty convenient time, I would show up to let Herb know he has the lurkers vote of confidence.

i'm game

although, 30 students out of 30,000 may do more harm than good. we should try to get more than that.

I don't think a plaque needs to be given out (btw, I know of a good trophy/award company that would probably be happy to donate a simple plaque). But I am definitely interested, Herb deserves to know that he does have support out there.

Sign me up.

^i'm not trying to say a plaque or not a plaque

i'm just saying any effort at something to show that there are fans out there could be good

because i think i remember you being fairly anti-Herb in some other threads

Thats a dumb idea IMO...I'm not a Herb basher, just think its a stupid idea.

Why do we need to do something else that brings attention (media) to our program. The media is the main one stiring up the crap with Herb and Chuck...Why? B/C the media is dominated by UNC journalism in that area...why give them anymore opportunities to try to stir the pot.

If we would just support our teams and not go out of our way to support or voice our disapproval we would be a lot better off.

I am fairly anti-herb, but regardless of my position on herb a plaque is not a very good idea imo.

edit: that's why i said "giving him a plaque" is a horrible idea, I didn't say anything regarding some other kind of gesture. just don't give him a damn plaque.

well thats fine

but again, i think SOME effort to show support would be good since we did have a good season, with the exception of the month or so before the ncaa tourney

at least for the people who appreciate Herb

is this the parade we've all been waiting for to celebrate our win in the first round? winning a first round game is basically equivalent to winning some kind of championship at NC State. it's time to celebrate and have a parade!!!

300 people showing up as opposed to 30 people will leave a hell of a lot bigger impression than a plaque... he isn't the coach of your 5 year old's t-ball team... Herb and the gang just need to know that we appreciate a good season...

^Exactly.

I know they didn't win the damn national title, but neither will 64 other tourney teams. They ran into a damn good team yesterday who played their best.

Nobody give me a plaque or support for doing my job well enough...you celebrate for an exceptional job not doing just good enough.

Serously stop wanting to throw anyone, Football, Basketball, etc. parties until we do something exceptional.

Activities that warrent celebration IMO:

Bball - ACC Tourney Title, Final 4, undefeated ACC regular season, regular season champs
Fball - ACC Champs, BCS Bowl Win, National Champ game appearance

That is off the top of my head but I may have missed something.

there is a huge difference between celebration and showing somebody you still support them, even though there are thousands of stupid angry rednecks that want to hang him in effigy.

If you thought UNC people gave State fans shit for having a parade for our 4th place ACC finish in football a few years ago (their words, not mine), imagine the flak for having a march of support for a coach who finished fourth in ACC basketball, went 1-5 v. rivals, had another 10-loss season, was a 10 seed in the tournament, and got bounced in the second round again. We really don't need that kind of embarassment, I think this year's record is bad enough.

UNC has marches and rallies for everything. I think NC State having one march in support of a coach won't hurt. I don't agree with the plaque.... Maybe a picture of each one of his supporters, so he can get the images of all the haters out of his head.....

There seems to be more fire herb on packpride and herb luv on tww. nonetheless, you're right about all these threads. But a "march for Herb" thread? C'mon, are you serious?

btw, just for the record, I think firing herb would reflect bad on us. For him to move on would be best for both parties. But still, I'd like for a change.

He won't be fired. He will either be bought out or leave of his own accord. No one gets "fired" anymore. They use terms like "asked to resign" to make it sound better.

PackPride is hostile about Herb because A) people on there are the ones giving money to the program v. TWW where students aren't pouring thousands into the athletics program and B) most of them are old enough to remember when we were a real program v. TWW where these past 5 years are the most successful basketball we have seen.

No. Just coming from a different perspective. I'm not trying to say that the Herb Lovers don't have a right to speak, and I understand why they think he is great, because it is all we have known (myself included). I just happen to have read up on State basketball history and realize that it used to be a whole lot more successful than recent history and know that we should expect to be as good as the program used to be, not settle for the Sendek version of success. It is just mediocrity that is allowed to be framed as success because of the long dry spell we had as a result of probation.

^agreed. Ain't mad, just educating when there's an open mind to listen. I'm not saying anyone should bite their tongue, but I'll be lying if I don't state that sometimes the gibberish on tww sounds like 7yr olds arguing.

Umm some of us have been "fans" longer than you pal. Just because you are in your first year at State, don't assume that the rest of us were not "fans" before we came here. I was well aware during the Les Robinson years.

BTW Migden Bakilli was my favorite player wayyyy back when.

If you think a "plaque of support" appears to the outside as anything other than a kiss of death you are pretty clueless about the world of college sports. There is no serious movement to oust Herb. Why do something to make his job seem tenuous?

Maybe you honestly want Herb gone, but you are just cutting his legs out from under him if you follow through with this.

As someone who actually gives money to nc state athletetics, all the herb lovers calling me a not true fan can suck my dick. When you have dumped well over 10,000 into this program then we'll talk. Until then, fuck off.
