Anyone know of any good places to stay in Key West?
We are planning a trip down there for the 4th of July, and want a nice place to stay. Kind of want to keep out of the Standard Hotels. Thinking of a cottage or B&B or something cool like that. Anyone been down there that could offer a suggestion?
Money isn't really a Big issue, but don't want to blow the whole budget on the lodging unless it is worth it. 3/21/2006 11:17:51 AM |

Sunset Key, its a private island off Key West. Its pretty damn pricey, well fuck its downright $Texas buts it got private beaches, an awesome pool and a restaurant. You have to talk a shuttle boat to get on and off the island but it runs all night 3/21/2006 11:27:02 AM |

Yea, me and my wife are flaming homos.
Sunset Key would be awesome, but I think its a little too high. Money isn't a big issue, but still, I'm no millionaire. 3/21/2006 1:02:16 PM |

Spring break two years ago I stayed at The Palms Hotel. It's a smaller hotel in the old town area. It has a nice little pool and a small private outside bar which was relatively inexpensive. The rooms were okay, but not great. You could walk to Duval if you were motivated, drunk or both, but we took cabs most of the time. There are definitely nicer places to stay, but at The Palms Hotal you could relax by the pool and drink some beer in a quieter, more private setting. I would stay there again, but you might want to look for a place with nicer rooms.

Crowne Royal La Concha. The fiancee and I stayed here. It's not a B&B (we couldn't find reservations for one on such a short notice), but it was still pretty nice. http://tinyurl.com/s3ydn
Make sure you visit Fort Jefferson. It's an all day activity and well worth it. There are two ferry services to Ft Jefferson; I recommend taking Sunny Days Catamarans. Their boat was faster, their guide was better and, most importantly, their lunch was better. http://www.sunnydayskeywest.com/fastcat.htm 3/22/2006 8:56:37 PM |

yeah, drove from raleigh to key west on a straight shot, had a drink, passed out in the car, hopped on a boat and camped out on the dry tortugas for a couple of days
saw some huge sharks swimming along the outer wall of the fort - all in all it was a fun trip3/22/2006 9:39:33 PM |

^^^ Just got back from the Dry Tortugas a week ago putting some tags in red grouper out on the reef.
Fort Jefferson is bad-ass, but not the same since the hurricane

^ Most of the trees are gone and the fort had a little damage (mortar keeps falling out) and the reef had a lot of damage from effluent and movement of sand. A lot of the fishermen are complaining that the water clarity has temporarily gone down as result of the hurricane. Still very nice. There are several massive jewfish that hang around the ferry pier and rock wall. 3/23/2006 11:39:17 AM |

we got engaged at place called the eden house. The rooms are small, but cozy. There is no TV but instead a really nice pool that has happy hour! It is meant to be romantic. 3/23/2006 11:51:54 AM |

Dry Tortugas was awesome... you have to go there. Also, Shula's was one of the best dinners I have ever had. Other than that, just walk the streets hit up Virgilio's and stay away from Sloppy Joe's (tourist trap) 3/23/2006 2:14:12 PM |
