I've applied for a job, submitted 3 letters of recommendation, and been accepted for an interview. The exact e-mail says

Quote :
"Chris, We now need to set up a time for an interview. I know you so we
can either have you come to Charlottesville or we could do it by phone.
Either way you will get the same consideration as the other candidates.
I would need to conduct the interview in the next week."

So, the question is, should I go out of my way to go up there? He says I will receive the same consideration but do you think it would do any good for me to go? (i.e. bonus points?) It doesn't exactly work well with my schedule next week but I really want the job.

Thoughts?

The jews can't bother themselves to pay for a trip up there? Doesn't sound like the best opportunity

If the company won't pay for you to come interview, it's probably one you shouldn't take, IMO.

I'm never heard of a halfway decent company NOT paying for your travel. My interviewers came from Delaware to interview me. My roommate's company paid his way to Connecticut for his interview.

well they haven't said whether or not they are paying or not

this is what I sent back

Quote :
"I would prefer to come there to meet face to face and to get a better
feeling for the office. However, I am not sure if it works with my
schedule next week. It depends on what means of travel you had in
mind and what day you wanted to meet. What day works best for you?

good reply.

A little extra effort can go a long way if it's something you really want.

I agree that was a good reply...hopefully you can judge how "seriously" they want you, ya know?

If the job is up in Charlottesville I'd be down w/ that. Near a college campus, could make noise @ NCSU away games, see the UVA hotties....good times.

Good luck w/ whatever goes down!

Ive been on several interviews where milage is paid. I have made almost 1,000 the past month actually from traveling. I would travel and see the area. If its in BFE, then you might not like it.

If it were halfway across the country, I'd advise against it. But Charlottesville is close enough that it would be worth it. You have any better plans for that day?
