I could get further with more time and more light.

That's the big catch...time. A regular shop will charge at least 75 dollars an hour for their time troubleshooting.

My time is only 25 an hour, but even that can add up, given the nature of electrical problems.

Actually what I found is NO current at all at the taillight sockets. Gonna require tracing the harness back and see if it's been pinched or clipped as a result of your incident.

i was just wondering 'cause if he hadn't, his mind might have been on food instead of the task at hand and he could've forgot to turn the lights on.

I recommend After Hours on Capital Boulevard behind House of Wheels (next to Adventure Landing)... I believe they charge a flat $45 to diagnose the problem, no matter how long it takes them to find the problem! They are always very busy, and may not get to your car quickly... Definitely the cheapest around!

doubt it'll pass like that, not if it's completely out. Does this affect the brake light on that side too?

could be any number of things, even a bad switch, it just takes time to trace it out, helps to have a good wiring diagram too, what year make and model is it? and i'm assuming its the turn signal thats screwed up. post all your info and i'll post a wiring diagram tomorrow after i get off work,

does your turn signal work? if its just the tailight you could just wire it into the tail light on the other side of hte car.

turn signal works
its the "evening lights" that dont work
you know, when you turn your headlights on the taillight will glow too
so does that orange light, but theyre both out
however brake light and turn signal work
turn signal also works on the orange light up front

its a 200 Ford Focus, i know laugh it up, but thats what ive got so yeah!

so your parking lights dont work on one side? if its a 2005, i'd let the dealer fix it under warranty

really, it is under warranty still
just didnt think that issue was part of my guarantee agreement

is it common for people to say "heres my car, check it out, lemmi know what the issue is and the cost before you do anything" ? i dont want them doing something i cant pay for ya know?

[Edited on March 27, 2006 at 6:27 PM. Reason : if i do have to pay how much do you think that would cost?]

just call your local ford dealership (crossroads?).

ask for the service dept.. ask the service writer if this issue is covered.

If you explicitly state that you want a proper estimate before any work is attempted, and this request is clearly stated on the work order (and it can be) BEFORE you sign it, then you pay nothing for work that you haven't approved.

Work orders over 300 (maybe 350) dolla REQUIRE the owner's written permission prior to the work being performed. This is the LAW, and work done without approval as such can be contested in court.
