So I need to go get my eyes checked and get new glasses (all that fun stuff) and want to know who you guys go to. I'd go to Walmart Vision Center or something, but I have pretty bad eyesight and some eye problems and I'd like to visit a reputable place.
So who would you recommend? 3/27/2006 8:10:56 AM |

I see Dr. Silver at Eye Care Associates in Cary. She seems like she knows what she is doing.

I highly recommend any Doctor's Vision Center facility. I used to use one in Wilmington, and now use the one on New Bern Ave., but they also have one in Cary. They also specialize in visual learning, and are able to handle wierd people like me who sees double and wears blue tinted glasses. They will think outside of the box if your specific needs warrant it. 3/27/2006 11:09:52 AM |

Dr. Forsyth at Optemetric Eye Care at Celebration at Six Forks on Six Forks Rd. is good, and I think he does vision stuff for the university, sometimes they have discounts for State students on contacts and glasses. 3/27/2006 2:34:44 PM |

I used to go to Eye Care Associates in Cary and now I see doctor Briggs at the Eye Care Associates in Cameron Village.
As you probably already know...if you have bad eyes it can get very expensive. I have VSP through IBM and still pay a lot...however I have HORRIBLE vision and astigmatism so I need toric lenses for contacts.
But yea, Eye Care Associates has always been very knowledgable and professional. 3/27/2006 4:00:23 PM |

I've been going Dr. Samuels in the Eye Care whatever next to Best Buy in Cary since I was a kid. I get a state employee discount and you can wander around the aforementioned store while your eyes are dilated. 8/11/2008 4:44:01 PM |

I have been going to North Carolina eye and Ear in Durham since 1983. they were McPherson's Hospital, and ranked as one of the best eye clinics in the United States. My parents thought I had some unusual eye problems, so they drove to a clinic that was supposed to be the best around. I still go there. Last year, my doctor who is a glaucoma specialist saw a problem with one of my ducts, and went through some proactive surgery that probably saved me from glaucoma down the road. He moved to Hilton head, but I have also been seeing Dr. Bell for years. She is also great.
So my vote is to head to North roxboro in Durham. They have a large facility that does nothing but eye, ear, nose and throat.

Dr. Godwin & Dr. Hoyle (state grad) are nice (I've seen both) and my folks love Dr. C.
And they're also the "official eye care providers for North Carolina State University Athletics." - random, but you know... appropriate.

Yeah, I lost my eye glasses in New Orleans and I couldn't get an appointment here at home until mid September. According to my mom my insurance (TriCare) won't fund eyecare for two years, which is in November, so this place will likely be a one time deal. Thanks for the bump and suggestions! 8/11/2008 5:44:09 PM |

I gave NCSULilWolf's place a call first and got an appointment like it was nothing, and they take my insurance company too. I got Dr. Weitz, if that makes a difference.

^ Their staff is very quick to take care of anything you need and very friendly. They had my super specific contacts in and ready for me to pick up within like 2 days - and it was cheaper than any of the online sites that are often cheaper (plus, no shipping mishaps/costs).
Glad it's worked well for ya so far! 8/12/2008 1:36:48 AM |

fwiw, I called around today to find the cheapest place to get a contact fitting/exam. Costco in North Raleigh was 125, Wal-Mart was 110, I think, and booked for weeks. Lenscrafters was 150 or so.
The Costco in Durham was 80 and I think I'm just going to drive out there to save some money.
If you guys know anyone cheaper, let me know. 8/12/2008 3:51:38 PM |

I am not sure who took my old doctors place at nc eye and ear. You can always call them and ask. I like this place because it is actually a hospital, not just an eyecare place. They perform a lot of procedures in house. 8/12/2008 9:26:44 PM |
