See... If we had all be watching the spanish channel we would have seen this coming. I still think it hilarious that Illegals actually have the audacity to march and make demands.. Thats like a crackhead complaining to customs that he doesn't have access to enough drugs, and expecting sympathy.

Quote :
"Spanish Media Organized Nationwide Mass Protests
Save It Email It Print It
(AP) LOS ANGELES The marching orders were clear: Carry American flags and pack the kids, pick up your trash and wear white for peace and for effect.

Many of the 500,000 people who crammed downtown Los Angeles on Saturday to protest legislation that would make criminals out of illegal immigrants learned where, when and even how to demonstrate from the Spanish-language media.

For English-speaking America, the mass protests in Los Angeles and other U.S. cities over the past few days have been surprising for their size and seeming spontaneity.

But they were organized, promoted or publicized for weeks by Spanish-language radio hosts and TV anchors as a demonstration of Hispanic pride and power.

In Milwaukee, where at least 10,000 people rallied last week, one radio station manager called some employers to ask that they not fire protesters for skipping work. In Chicago, a demonstration that drew 100,000 people received coverage on local television more than a week in advance.

"This was a much bigger story for the Latino media," said Felix Gutierrez, a professor at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication. "If the mainstream media had been paying better attention, there would not have been the surprise about the turnout."

Adrian Velasco first learned of House legislation to overhaul immigration policy on Los Angeles' Que Buena 105.5 FM. Over two weeks, the 30-year-old illegal immigrant soaked up details about the planned march against the bill from Hispanic TV and radio. On Saturday, he and three friends headed downtown.

"They told all the Hispanic people to go and support these things," Velasco said. "They explained a lot. They said, 'Here's what we're going to do."'

One of those doing the most talking was El Piolin, a syndicated morning show radio host who is broadcast in 20 cities.

El Piolin, whose real name is Eduardo Sotelo and whose nickname means "Tweety Bird," persuaded colleagues from 11 Spanish-language radio stations in Los Angeles to talk up the rally on air.

He said he devised the idea of telling protesters to wear white and carry flags to symbolize their peaceful intent and love of the United States. He also urged parents to bring their children to minimize chances of violence and reminded everyone to bring plenty of water and trash bags.

"I was talking about how we need to be united to demonstrate that we're not bad guys and we're not criminals," said Sotelo, 35, who crossed into the United States as a teenager and became legal in 1996.

In Milwaukee, the Spanish-language station WDDW 104.7 made a point of publicizing the House legislation and the protest against it on its morning and drive-time shows two weeks ahead of time.

Operations manager Armando Ulloa said his goal was at least 10,000 people -- and police estimated that was what the rally attracted. After the march, Ulloa said, he called some employers and asked them to be lenient on protesters who missed their shifts.

In Los Angeles, 10 prime-time Spanish-language news anchors filmed a promotion urging demonstrators to show respect, said Julio Cesar Ortiz, a television reporter who covers immigration.

"The Spanish media said, 'Do it in a proper way. Do it in a way where's there's pride behind it when you're done,"' Ortiz said.

Telemundo Chicago, a Spanish-language TV station, began its coverage blitz 1 1/2 weeks before a recent rally, though there was no urging that viewers attend, said news director Esteban Creste.

"We just told them what was going on," Creste said. "While we were not trying to mobilize people, it might have prompted people to decide to go there."

The protests continued Tuesday in at least four states, with thousands of students leaving school again in California, Arizona, Texas and Nevada.

In Los Angeles, the numbers were far smaller than the tens of thousands who marched Monday. Authorities thwarted efforts to block freeway traffic, rounding up some youngsters and issuing truancy citations.

In Phoenix, students marched to the state Capitol for the second day in a row. In Las Vegas, they rallied near the Strip after being directed away from casinos.

And in Dallas, students crowded in front of City Hall, waving Mexican and Salvadoran flags and shouting "We can do it" in Spanish.

The protests jammed roads. A Dallas school district spokesman said a girl's hand was severed when the sport utility vehicle she was in sped into an intersection and overturned.

Out of all the awesome stuff you could've focused on, you fucking piece of shit, like the Hispanic media encouraging safe and responsible demonstration, you bolded some bullshit about an accident.

Actually I did that to basically do what you did to me by picking that out... I thought it was kind of pointless to be there in the first place...... so when i read it, i laughed (not because its funny, but because its there IN THE STORY for no reason) I thought others might find it..... "FUNNY" also.

Well, it's not like we take the tired, poor, yada yada homeless and tempest-tossed.

We take the dudes with degrees. If somebody wants to be a janitor, he's out of luck.

My problem is that they don't want to come here and become Americans. They want to RELOCATE MEXICO TO THE U.S.... I see more Mexico flags around Wilmington than I see U.S. flags....

I'm sorry, but if you want to come here, then come here legally. I agree with making it a felony to be here illegally.

i'm curious,

if you all are against mexicans coming to the us, shouldn't you just as quickly say that we should give back all the land we stole from them?

to me, the least we can do for being the primary reason that they are poor and hungry is to let them into what is now our country

^^^^My problem with that is that their government is keeping it's citizens poor. If there was a less corrupt government in place in Mexico, then the people would be able to improve their lives on their own, instead of using people as the country's main export and cash flow from illegal immigration as their second largest source of government revenue....

Don't blame the U.S. for the problems that Mexico is currently experiencing. If Mexico had better government, they wouldn't be in the mess they are in.

^^ and ^ if you're going to play the equivalency game for their side, then you, being american, should support full integrationist immigration policies and even more so oppose illegal immigration.

i'm don't. i agree with enforcing the laws currently on the books. if it weren't insanely profitable and with very little chance of getting the 10,000 dollar fine on each illegal working for companies, it wouldn't be that big of a problem. no work, no illegals. then they would come legally to work.

i understand why they come. i don't understand both our reaction and inaction to those who do so illegally.

passing more laws isn't going to do anything, the current ones sure aren't.

When the Irish were pouring over here, people complained about them not wanting to immigrate, about them "relocating Ireland." Based on how tragically that ended, I have to agree with the anti immigration cap.

half a trillion?
500 billion?

http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalexec.html
Quote :
"Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of almost $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per illegal household.

With nearly two-thirds of illegal aliens lacking a high school degree, the primary reason they create a fiscal deficit is their low education levels and resulting low incomes and tax payments, not their legal status or heavy use of most social services.

Many of the costs associated with illegals are due to their American-born children, who are awarded U.S. citizenship at birth. Thus, greater efforts at barring illegals from federal programs will not reduce costs because their citizen children can continue to access them.

Although legalization would increase average tax payments by 77 percent, average costs would rise by 118 percent.

With nearly two-thirds of illegal aliens lacking a high school degree, the primary reason they create a fiscal deficit is their low education levels and resulting low incomes and tax payments, not their legal status or heavy use of most social services."

i dont quite understand where the other costs come from, and it doesnt say.

edit- this means that the fight over allowing them to access education is counterproductive. the above means (to me) that giving illegals greater access to education would make them more "cost effective"

I'll tell you where another cost comes from: uninsured immigrants using our emergency rooms.

Kaiser estimates that it costs 41 billion a year. Of course not all of that is due to illegal immigrants.

http://www.kff.org/uninsured/kcmu051004nr.cfm

Plus we spend 10 billion a year trying to keep Mexicans out of our country.

But yeah, Lou Dobbs is probably exaggerating. Or pulling numbers out of his ass.

I've heard that the majority of those marching are actually legal residents. Lately it has been a lot of native-born hispanic students who worry that their parents will get thrown out of the country.

^^ census bureau estimates that about 45-46 million americans (under 16% of countries population) are uninsured. so spending 42 billion doesnt seem that bad(except for those people).

couldnt find any numbers on an actual cost of free emergency room care for illegal immigrants and similar concerns. from one website i saw it doesnt seem that high.

yes, i'd be quite happy if there were no more illegal immigration

but that's a dodge

to really answer your question, my answer is that, yes, if we're going to follow the policies of fucking morons like these guys championing illegal immigration, then we should at the minimum be consistent and get rid of those laws making that immigration illegal in the first place. However, that solution would suck. My personal desire is a threefold strategy: 1) reduce basic immediate restrictions on immigration, 2) establish a highly integrationist paradigm across all public elements of our society that those immigrants will have to deal with (private organizations can be as multicultural as they want), and 3) staff the immigration dept. with thousands of employees who can handle the increased case load from the reduced restrictions on entry

They're called "anchor babies" in some editorials. I just would like to see the ones that are here illegally that haven't applied for their green card or citizenship be sent back to their country. It's not exactly fair to those of us who have worked and paid taxes all our lives to have people who snuck across the border using the tax money that we contribute every year. People immigrate to this country legally every day. Those that bypass the system should not be allowed to stay.

^You know what, if fucking xenophobes like you wouldn't make it illegal for them to come here, they wouldn't have to sneak. They'd pay their taxes and do their civic duty quite happily, I expect, sooner than risk life, limb, and deportation like they have to now. You want the problem to go away? Remove the restrictions.

Quote :
"you're mixing illegal and legal immigration too!"

That's because they're the same fucking thing.

Laws preventing immigration are unjust, wrong, and, in their own way, illegal themselves. It is our duty to ignore and subvert those laws wherever possible while trying to get them taken off the books.

To which you will say, "Show me the candidate who wants to take away those laws," to which I'll say, "Show me where your issue has been with that and not with the immigrants themselves."
