I had a "I said no to Dean" shirt like that one when Carolina hired Doh. It was some funny stuff. Not so good on the other side of the coin, but I guess for anyone watching from the outside, its some funny stuff.

Quote :
"Lee Fowler took on a tremendous risk at the beginning of this process when he chose to own complete control of the whole process. But, that is what he wanted; that is what he got. When someone with zero business acumen and no real-world corporate experience gets thrown into this kind of situation, they need to recognize that they need a team of very talented people around them to guide them through all of the complex and sophisticated issues. But, Lee Fowler wanted to be “the guy”. He is going to get his wish.

If Lee Fowler was more sophisticated, then throughout the last five years he would have realized that all of his criticisms of NC State’s fans would ultimately not serve him well when he needed to find a coach…and all of his attempts to defend Herb Sendek by de-valuing the NC State job wasn’t very strategic, either. But, Lee Fowler isn’t that sophisticated. He never has been. Why would anyone think that he could be sophisticated enough to handle the intricacies of a real-world situation like hiring a multi-million dollar employee?

The real story here is not that NC State has a bad job or that NC State fans mistreated Herb Sendek by allowing him to coach for 10 years despite assimilating the second worst record in this history of NC State Basketball, as some in the media keep trying to portray. How many of the four impressive candidates that have gotten all the way down the aisle have cared about these issues? If those issues were a problem, then the candidates would have never started conversations with State.

The processes with Barnes, Calipari, Beilein and Lavin have all broken down at the end. All broken down in the execution and negotiation stage. One man is responsible for that phase. That is the way he chose it.

John Beilein is breathing a sigh of relief this morning while NC State’s program wakes up to a very different reality that no one has mentioned yet — now that Fowler has all but insured that he won’t be NC State’s Athletics Director in the future, what coach is going to want to come to NC State when they don’t know for whom they will be working in the future? Additionally, in light of Fowler’s unethical move on Beilein, why would other coaches remotely consider talking to Lee Fowler? Who can trust the guy?

When State struggles to land the next guy, expect the media to focus on everything but the intricacies of what is really going on…just like every other day."

david glenn's blog has been pretty spot-on the whole time. of course he's an actual journalist with a reputation to uphold. his latest addition:

Quote :
" Hi again, everybody. Quick answers:

(1) Yes, college coaches are talking about NCSU as the laughingstock of college athletics right now. BUT nobody will remember the gory details of this search a few years from now IF the Wolfpack gets the right guy at the end. Who cares what outsiders think anyway?

(2) I know some other media outlets focused on Phil Ford today, but I used the word "longshot" for Ford in my article last night for a reason. If you see a massive public-relations blitz (meaning pro-Ford public comments from former NCSU players, etc.) in favor of Ford over the next few days, then he may become a serious candidate at State. Unless/until you see that happen, he's NOT a serious candidate.

(3) NCSU officials are going through the same "throw names out there" process right now that you are going through as fans. They're not exactly back at "square one," but they're not far from it. They absolutely expected their next coach to be either Lavin or Beilein, so there's a lot of work ahead.

(4) Mike Montgomery said no. He told State officials that he would have listened had he been fired by the Golden State Warriors after this season, but the Warriors retained him. Also see Les Robinson's comments about Montgomery in my blog from earlier in the week.

(5) My thanks to the 90 percent of NCSU fans who have been reasonable toward me, and I would hope the rest of the media, throughout this process. You make the angry, pathetic, irrational, mean-spirited, clueless, fact-challenged, delusional, perpetually lazy and intellectually dishonest 10 percent more tolerable, and you prevent that 10 percent from giving the rest of you a bad name. Keep throwing facts, logic and reason at them. They can't survive it.

since other schools are recruiting right now (like we should be doing) I really think it's going to be tough to lure a coach away at this point in the game

they're all out on the road, talking to recruits, building relationships

they don't have time for this bullshit

we're going to get stuck w/ a high school coach

lol no we can get a mid-low major guy, we're just going to have to suck it up and realize we aren't getting any a-listers, like many of us (well, the herb supporters at least) suspected before herb left.

hopefully we can get lucky and end up with somebody like V (ie surprise good coach out of a school like Iona...)

my vote now is for Duane Lewis from my HS. he gets pumped for games and cusses like a sailor, plus he is a big state fan, he might lose to roy boy, but roy won't feel like he won shit after the verbal abuse Lewis would hand down.

^^yeah i do, i was just using an example that applied to us that was in recent history

and apparantly news stations are reporting that we have narrowed down the search to one candidate, and it's not whitt or marshall...

actually Tubby may still be alive, he hasnt been counted out at all and has made no public statement to discredit the rumor that he has been talking with us about buying him out.

its possible, and a heck of a turn.

no confirmation from PackPride's usual sources....a coach is the source, and said it is a done deal

this may be true, but if every rumor with 1 source was confirmed from packpride this would be at least our 9th coach!!!

Mike Brey is a good guy. I met him back when he was at UD. I think he'd be a hell of a coach here, compared to what's left, and he's got area familiarity, being a Dookie.

Otherwise, my suggestion of Nolan Richardson still stands

Me from page 2:

Quote :
"As I suggested in the other thread

Name's noone has mentioned yet

Mike Brey - Notre Dame
Billy Gillespie - TX A&M
Tom Brennan - Former Vermont Coach
Pat Flannery - Bucknell
Dana Altman - Creighton

I still prefer Nolan Richardson

4/1/2006 8:39:33 PM"

Brey brought UD to the top of the America East conference back in the mid-late 90s (Before UD left for the CAA), and we made a few tourney appearances. At ND, he had some success, but the last 2 years have been struggles, with lots of close losses. They were a Sweet 16 team a few years ago, which is a hell of a lot more than ND has done in a while

Friday night WRAL mentioned that Sidney Lowe apparently is getting his degree in May, and supposedly he would be a candidate if he could show that he would indeed earn the degree in May. Kinda surprised this hasnt been discussed, at least here.

And Mike Brey? Please God no.
