I don't have much advice to offer since Spanish is what I used to meet my requirement, but I know Packman who teaches Latin is a really nice person which goes along way towards dealing with foreign languages.

Not sure if Latin can count for foreign language req, but it is offered by the foreign languages department – its atleast really interesting stuff since its dealing with the Roman Empire and Caesar and all that. Greek is also interesting if you are into ancient philosophy, literature, or biblical stuff but ancient Greek is a really hard language where as Latin is much more like what we are familiar with since so many languages are based off of it. Also being a language that isn’t really spoken more, the emphasis is just on learning the words, not learning how to pronounce them properly and being able to speak fluently.

spanish seems like the main route for ppl who just want to edge by. kennedy is a really sweet teach who will pass you if you try even if you dont have any idea whats going on.

and not remember latin isn't a bad thing, you might pick it up faster the 2nd time around, but even if you didn't you were able to make it through 3 years of it before, you could make it through a few years of it again with a nice teacher. since your goal is getting past the requirement, not learning the material, then what does it matter if you remember it? atleast the roman stuff that Packman would probably cover would be interesting. Either way good luck.

I hated the FL req too, but I was able to get most of it out of the way with summer sessions. Its so much easier to do well on the final exam when you only have to think 1 month back to remember the very earliest material.

argg i hate this, too. i was debating whether to start over with a new language (101, 102, 201), or just take french 110 then 201 because i took french for 4 years. i went with the french. whatevers easiest..

you seemed interested in the greek & roman mythology class i mentioned before (and oviously by your screen name you know something of greek mythology). you could test out packman for that class, and if you like her as a professor then consider latin. (that is if that language can fulfill the requirement)

take your 201 level one summer at community college... total cop out, but the grade doesn't matter and in general it is tough to fail.

for fls 101 and 102 (and even fls 110 i think) credit only were options, but i think for 201 that you need something higher than a C- (i could be wrong on that though)

201 you need a grade, that's about it. Most degrees do not have it as a C wall course, so squeaking by with something lower is possible, but I'm sure you don't want to get lower than a C

i took french for 4 years in middle/high school, so i have a pretty good base. with a little review i might be fine. next semester i don't want to wake up early, and i'm living off campus. my first class is at 9:10 (french 110) so i'd still have to get up early to get ready/make it to campus. my options are:

1. take the 110 with beckman early in the morning fall semester, get a really good review of french, then take 201 the following semester and be done with languages

2. attend some 100 level classes next semester, but not be officially signed up for any, get a little review, and sign up for 201 with bell in the spring and wing it.

i've heard that beckman is really good, and that bell's classes seem dumbed down (hooray!). i don't want the extra work of 110 and having to get up early, but i think i need some review time. sooooo people who have taken french at ncsu.. what do you think.
