So it looks like they raised the price of DVDs by about $5.

There has been a demand for "no frills" DVD releases that are a few dollars cheaper that the special additions - they are finally starting to do this. The no frills DVDs cost $19.99 (the same price that the special edition DVDs used to cost) and the special editions are running $24.99 (what used to be $19.99).

Net effect a masked $5 increase in DVD prices.

Remember paying $40 all the time for special editions around 1999-2000?

No, you probably don't.

people listen at different times, but over-played songs can get old.

a better comparison would have been

I know, I mean what's up with me listening to a 2 hour song on cd playing songs more than once?

And many movies have plot elements that aren't as good once you know whats coming.

I didn't mean to say that people shouldn't buy dvds, but I just don't know why someone would buy so many dvds that $5 could break their budget.

Also, you people (and by "you people" I mean "jbtilley") have nothing to complain about until you've bought Gimme Shelter or Rushmore at ~$40 a pop.

Clerks was $32 for a lonnnnnnnng time, and it was just the DVD transfer of the SE LaserDisc.

If I'm buying DVDs I'm usually doing the "2 for $12" or "3 for $25" at Blockbuster. It's not like it matters how the case looks.

HD DVDS will be 30 dollars when they come out. I think the first one they are releasing is Batman Begins....

dvdfile.com has more details, if it is still up.
