i have a four year old one with a one year old mattress. it's the all metal frame--a little squeeky but if you put cardboard under the mattress it's a lot quieter.

^^ had a metal one also, lasted a month
have a wodden one now, havent had any problems except its not comphy to sleep on

I have a 7 feet wide, metal frame futon with wooden armrests on the sides. It has a blue mattress. The armrests also have compartments to put remotes and other stuff. I might sell it if I can find a suitable sofa to replace it.
