okay so my friend and i parked at UW in the visitor spots and there were no towing signs around. we went in for like 30 min to get a friend, came back out and the car had been towed. we finally managed to find the car after driving around for an hour downtown to some sketchy lot. for anyone who has been towed at UW before, is there any way to get out of paying for this since we were in visitor parking? or know where we should go to talk to someone about this...thanks

you really got towed out of visitor spots? did they say visitor spots? or were they just spots that are far away from the buildings[Edited on April 9, 2006 at 1:34 AM. Reason : geez]

well, we sure thought it was visitor parking since there was a sign that said sothe one man towing operation said there were towing signs posted where we were parked, but we had to call someone just to find out the towing company number cause we couldn't find a sign anywhere

nobodys going to help you out with thisthat property is managed by the preiss companythey are the most disorganized group of selfish idiotic people on the planetjust pay for it and tell all your friends to not live there

^i have no rebuttal, that was perfect

Even though the signs may say Visitor Lot, the individual parking spaces have to have a "Yellow V" painted on them. Chances are, if you managed to find a space last night, you were not in a visitor space. There are resident spaces directly next to the visitor spaces, so you have to be careful which one you choose. It's worth a call to the Preiss Company, if you know you were parked correctly, but their policy is pretty much, "we're not responsible for anything that happens in the parking lots."

About damned fucking time they towed you idiots taking my fucking spot!!!! No but seriously, they never tow the people actually in violation (AKA the fuckers that park directly in front of buildings) they always tow the poor soul parked one spot over from the "V" spot, and that is bullshit.Oh and you'll never get your money back. Sorry. It sucks but that's just the way it is.[Edited on April 9, 2006 at 2:07 PM. Reason : sucky sucky]

^^I would have called the police and reported the car stolen if that were the case. [Edited on April 9, 2006 at 3:09 PM. Reason : lol]

if you had a sticker you should have reported it stolen and you'd get your car back w/o paying.
4/9/2006 4:05:36 PM
they cant tow the car if you are in it, so if you get in before they get away, they cant tow it
4/9/2006 4:09:33 PM
LOL I used to love screaming "God hates ppl who tow cars" at Ace towing, when I was at UT..."fuck you!!!!"Some dude, even had a sign... "FUCK ACE TOWING"
4/9/2006 4:13:00 PM
when i lived at UT, we would hide in the cars and crank them up after the tow truck had backed upit really pissed them off

this happened to my roommate about a month ago. she parked in the visitor spots overnight on a saturday, her car was towed, and didnt get her car back til monday, and she had to pay for 2 days at that sketchy damn tow truck lot

haha I was out there one time when I lived at U Woods and we were watching the tow truck guy and he started to tow a guy in a resident spot, got it half way out then put it back, took a digital picture of it there, and then proceeded to tow it again. Sure enough they left with the car. I just though it was interesting. If they really wanted to, they could tow people from the visitors lot to a esident spot, take a pic of it there, and take it anyway. That would suck and I totally hope that they would never do it.

that dog that is at the tow lot is and apparently he's extra cranky at 3 in the morning.

They will do everything they can to take your car. Very few people will make money like I did. As soon as they found out I was sueing them, they ran scared, and begged to settle out of court. The police will not do anything for you, if you were towed legally, but if towed illegally call the police immediately and report the car stolen. They may tell you that the tow company towed it, as required by law, but inform them you were parked legally and now your car is missing. If people have questions about towing, and/ or have problems with Medlin, let me know.
