sales?if there was one working to raise the beer alcohol % cap there must be. google isnt very fruitful on this one.after spending the weekend in atl, and seeing the selection and price benefits over our government run monopoly of abc stores, im looking to donate time, money, and resources to aiding such a movement.thx.[Edited on April 10, 2006 at 11:48 AM. while we are at it can we change the 2am restriction for alcohol sales to 4am?
4/10/2006 11:35:24 AM
Seriously. Although, when I go drinking in Atlantic City (24 hr liquor flow) it's kinda hard to stop and go home.
4/10/2006 11:43:47 AM
i dont care so much about the 2am cutoff. 24 hour drinking is hard to hang with, ive done plenty.i just hate that all abc stores have the same selection and price, that there is no variety, that many brands and products are unavailable, and that this seems like something the government has no business of being in.
4/10/2006 11:58:58 AM
theres no way north carolina government is going to give up that income[Edited on April 10, 2006 at 12:42 PM. Reason : .]
4/10/2006 12:14:37 PM
because obviously retail stores dont pay the government the taxes they take in.
4/10/2006 12:25:08 PM
No chance
4/10/2006 12:26:09 PM
you cant hide anything from the government if the government runs the storeah, i realized i put tax revenue. i mis-spoke. i meant revenue, not tax revenue.[Edited on April 10, 2006 at 12:42 PM. Reason : .]

starbucks coffee liqueur $50 in nc, $15 in every other state.[Edited on April 10, 2006 at 12:43 PM. Reason : fuck nc]
4/10/2006 12:43:19 PM
the only somewhat related thing ive found ishttp://www.ncleg.net/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2003&BillID=h1009attempting to establish a committee to investigate privatization, but that was in 2003 and died in committee.im gonna email http://www.popthecap.org since they had a similar area of agenda, perhaps would know...
4/10/2006 12:51:18 PM
i agree privatization would be a good thing.it's strange to travel to other states that have 24 hour private liquor stores with a huge variety, then come home to NC and be dissappointed.i mentioned the 2am thing because i normally don't go out until midnight or so, and 2am comes really fast. i've been spoiled by traveling to miami often where things don't get hoppin until 2am.[Edited on April 10, 2006 at 1:01 PM. Reason : typo]
4/10/2006 1:00:53 PM
Probably lobbyist groups out there ... but you are going to have a helluva time going this direction when there are still plenty of towns in NC that are completely dry.
4/10/2006 1:05:43 PM
On a related note....is it legal to cross state lines with still sealed alcohol in your trunk? (ie from S.C. to N.C.)? Assuming it's for you not for resale.
4/10/2006 4:20:31 PM
^dont think so...
4/10/2006 4:32:46 PM
^^ I think you can in small quantities
4/10/2006 4:48:15 PM
i'm all for it, but it's not a huge priority for me. it would definitely be tough to find the political will to make this happen...much tougher than raising the content in beer.
4/10/2006 6:23:44 PM
^^^^ no. the issue is a tax one. since taxes are paid on the state level, you are essentially importing liquor into the state of entry without paying required taxes.email back from sean @ pop the cap:
4/11/2006 8:49:40 AM
ABC stores generate too much money for the local schools to ever be privatized.
4/11/2006 10:59:50 AM
Liquor will never be privatized, and I'm finding out now that I need to buy my expensive liquor when I'm traveling in other states.700ml Crown Royal in NC: $361.5L Crown Royal in FL: $36THAT'S LIKE A 100% TAX! DAMN YOU NC GOVERNMENT!!!
4/11/2006 11:03:11 AM
im moving to a new state.
4/11/2006 12:07:05 PM
although abc stores affect citizens more often, i'd say the anti-cohabitation laws in nc are much more detrimental to personal freedom
4/11/2006 12:14:32 PM
nobody cares about your personal desire to sin at a cheaper expense
4/11/2006 12:18:52 PM
actually they do. go back to jerking off to pictures of Scott Stapp.^^yeah the 'alienation of affection' and 'criminal conversation' laws make us one of like 4 states stuck in the dark ages. damn embarrasing. and any move to modify or remove those and laws like them is hailed as the work of satan.NC really is convincing me to move elsewhere.[Edited on April 11, 2006 at 12:36 PM. 4/11/2006 12:41:34 PM
currently Liquor in NC is sold at government controlled outlets ("ABC Stores")prices and selection do not vary and are set by the ABC Boardthis is by definition a monopoly, and illegal for all reasons except that it is government runother states with privately owned and operated liquor stores still have government regulation, yet are free to independently control their prices and selection.specific examples include (from posts above, data not verified):starbucks coffee liqueur $50 in nc, $15 in every other state.700ml Crown Royal in NC: $36, 1.5L Crown Royal in FL: $36could this be fought with the "government cant provide a service which competes with private enterprise" which was an ambulance or lifeflight issue last year or 2?

MUCHO MUCHO IN AGREEMENT! I have been to Florida and seen their kick-ass ABC stores. I mean seriously, these places have a drive-thru window, cigars, headache medicine, fine cheeses, wine, beer, a much larger liquor selection and more. Like, look at these pictures I took on my celly:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v734/m4st3r_shake/gainesville_abc_shot1.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v734/m4st3r_shake/gainesville_abc_shot2.jpg
4/11/2006 1:04:46 PM
you could drive to florida to buy the liquor then come back. We used to do this all the time for fireworks in SC
4/11/2006 1:11:20 PM
^ heh, bit far don'cha think for some "potent oil"? (or whatever Pall Wall says)
4/11/2006 1:22:17 PM
i'd prolly spend like 20 minutes in there
4/11/2006 1:48:32 PM
the east coast, sans FL, has completely absurd liqour lawson the west coast you can buy a handle of premium vodka at any gas station or grocery store. it actually helps drive the price of liqour down because you can buy it anywhere. in fact, i did some shopping around the other day and was able to get a 1.75 litre bottle of Ketel One for $28.99 with my Albertson's club card

^ Unfortunately the same does not count for shipping. A friend of mine tried to buy a single bottle of hard to find rum off the internet and have it shipped to his appartment. The order was cancelled because you cannot ship alcohol (in any quantity) into Wake County.
4/11/2006 4:01:49 PM
I ordered liquor from overseas into wake county - no problem. Hell, it was shipped to an ncsu DORMITORY of all placeshaha that was kind of funny to go pick up my bottle of scotch from the RA at becton[Edited on April 11, 2006 at 4:31 PM. Reason : s]

GA is closer than FL and has the same liquor stores. awesome.i remember buying a half gallon of albertson's vodka in vegas for like six bucks. something to be said for competition. even shitty vodka here costs like $12.i think i may be too lazy to start my own movement, i really was hoping there was already an organization in place working on this issue. but i may not have a lot of options here.anyone with contacts in the following areas that wants to volunteer, i would love:-beer/wine/liquor distributors-bar/restaurant owners-political type shit-$$who were the proponents of the pop the cap bill?
4/12/2006 8:51:27 AM
IM FOR THIS MOVEMENT
4/12/2006 1:45:30 PM
Be glad we're not in Pennsylvania. They don't even sell wine in grocery stores up there.
4/14/2006 8:26:43 AM
Str8BacardiL is trying to privatize liquor stores.

Here are what can be sold county by county. It suprises me how many still have mixed beverages banned. It exemplifies the level of ignorance in these areas. http://www.ncabc.com/xo/
4/14/2006 12:01:38 PM
4/14/2006 12:06:21 PM
you can buy a half gallon of aristocrat for less than a fifth of smirnoff blue label
4/14/2006 12:21:06 PM
Not to mention that you can get a .750 of Svedka, which is decent, for about $13.It isn't Grey Goose, but it's won awards 'n' shit.
4/14/2006 12:28:14 PM
I'm definitely FOR this. If anyone hears of any organizations working on this, please post.
4/16/2006 3:28:37 PM
free markets work
4/16/2006 5:00:00 PM
i could give a rats ass who sells the stuff, as long as i can still buy it.
4/16/2006 5:25:52 PM
If they really wanted to generate tax revenue they would sell liquor until 2 and on sunday.
4/16/2006 6:01:05 PM
When I was in Hawaii... they had like 5 huge aisles of LIQUOR.. in WAL-MART.I was completely dumbfounded when I walked in the door and saw that.AND - wouldn't it be a lot more convenient to buy your bottle of liquor and your case of beer at the same location
4/16/2006 6:09:23 PM
What were the prices?
4/17/2006 12:14:19 AM
This will never pass. The best thing you can do is try to get the ABC stoes open on sunday.
