If all goes well, I'll be driving a new(er) BMW by the end of this week.

I've had the loan approved and today I'm going to talk to the dealer about my trade in. Because this is a small dealer with no warranty options (D45 auto) I need to have the car checked out myself.

Can anyone recommend a reliable BMW mechanic near Capital Blvd that will give the car a once over without costing me an arm and a leg?

How much should I expect to pay?


I've done every step of this process on my own, and while it doesn't seem like a big deal to most... buying my first car without any help or guidance has been a bit stressful.

I'm going to haggle with them over the price of the vehicle this afternoon.

Any advice would be appreciated!

They're out near Garner. Anything that I could not fix myself on my old Audi I took to that shop - they know their stuff. However I haven't used them for any inspecitons.

Down here in Charlotte though I've arranged a pre-purchase inspection for someone buying one of my previous cars - basically you pay for a couple hours labor - or about $140.

What care are you getting? 3 series?

Close to state I would recomend Black Forest Ind. or European Performance. Only two places I would trust.

Shadetree is good as well, but they are usually backed up for weeks.

Take it to your regular mechanic? That what I did with my BMW I bought a few weeks ago, and they looked over it for about 30 minutes and made sure everything looked kosher (and since we're regulars, they did this for FREE). Since it's used, ask them how long it might be before you need to replace certain things, if at all. My mechanic said my clutch should be good for several more years, which means the previous owner wasn't a shitty female driver, or a moron!

Also, since you're female, be tough with them. They will be asses to you and try to make you pay for shit you don't want or need and all this other stuff. Don't forget that they'll try to get you at the end with warranties and such that add a lot to either your car payment or the overall cost of the car. While I bought my car myself, I took my daddy with me to be firm with those fuckers. When my older sister bought her first car on her own (...at age 30, no less. She's been driving the same Cavalier since she graduated), they really tried to pull a cover over her eyes and assume she didn't know anything. But you'll know better than that!

There is a BMW place on Oak Forest Rd back behind the dealership I'm at, I've never had work done there but I've been inside and they seemed to be pretty legit. Where are you buying the car from?

that is First Class. or the car place. i think they both work on BMWs.
