you can probably gain weight just by taking protein. Go buy the cheap protein supplement at GNC. I assume you're trying to gain muscle and not fat. If it's the other case, Little Debbie works wonders.

I really don't think Protein is a good way to gain weight because it's not that high in calories or carbohydrates. It can be very filling too...so you're replacing something that could be high in calories and carbs with something that is low in calories in carbs. I usually suggest protein to people who are trying to lose weight. And since you don't have a lot of space, then buying a big tub of weight gainer probably won't help either.I'd suggest just changing your diet. Eat more starches...pastas, breads, etc. Anything that has more carbohydrates. Don't try to increase the sugars too much (which is what weight gainer basically is)...because those are bad calories.Just eat more.

i can try that but im really not too sure ill have the opportunity to eat any more than i usually do

You could always just eat more and get some good muscular exercise (lifting weights, for example). I know my friend went in the army and in basic training, he was super super skinny (he got the nickname Wee Willy Williams). So, they made him eat 3-5 hotdogs at every meal and of course he got plenty of exercise. When he came back from basic, he was buff as hell and had gained around 50 pounds of muscle.

I'm a little confused. You put on weight when you consume more calories than you burn. And consuming excessive amounts of carbohydrates and storing them will put on a lot of weight also.So when you have 20-25g of protein with only 110-130 calories and 2-5g of carbs...that doesn't seem like an easy way to put on weight. If you're trying to gain muscle...then yeah it's a good idea. But in my experience, protein shakes and bars fill you up and take place of other foods that could give you more calories and carbs that would make it easier to put on weight. If you could just add protein supplements without changing your diet...then that would work...but that's never been the case with me.I've always lost weight (and gained muscle), when I took protein on a consistent basis.

whey is absorbed quickly...if anything it makes me more hungry, which is why when I'm trying to lose weight I try and stay away form it unless I desperately need more protein for the dayalso you can't exactly "gain" muscle while you're losing weight, at least not to a signifigant degree....to gain weight (muscle included) you must eat at an excess of what you use, to lose you need to eat at a deficit...maybe you thought you were gaining muscle because you were losing body fat and becoming more defined[Edited on April 18, 2006 at 7:52 PM.
