yeah, larry would definately win one-on-one, since he had better supporting casts and all 4/17/2006 11:21:00 PM |

Bird:
24.3 PPG 10.0 RPG 6.3 APG
Maravich:
24.2 PPG 4.2 RPG 5.4 APG
Maravich was a terrific player and Bird had a much better supporting cast...but come on. 4/17/2006 11:39:02 PM |

Even if you just consider the scoring....Bird shot a higher FG% and FT%.
Bird may be slower but he'd shoot the J over Pete all day long. 4/17/2006 11:41:07 PM |

Pete
Games 658 fg% .441 3pt.% .667 *** ft% .82 assists 3,563 5.4 per game pts. 15,948 24.2 per game *** reb. 2,747 4.2 per game
only played one year with a three point line (his final year in the nba) and was known as a great long range shooter. imagine what is total pts. and ppg would be if he had that luxury his entire career. for that matter i wonder what his 44.2 ppg in college would have been? Hell, as amazing as redick was for duke, pete still outscored him by 900 points without the three ball and only playing 3 years of varsity basketball.
Larry
Games 897 fg% .496 3 pt. %.376 ft% .886 assists 5,695 6.3 per game (pete didn't have the luxury of playing next to parrish, ainge, and mchale) pts. 21,791 24.3 per game rebounds 8,974 10 per game (apples vs. oranges as one was a forward and the other a guard)
Close call but i'd have to take pete considering he didn't get to play during the 3pt. era and also for his spectacular ball handling ability.

^^better doesn't even describe it. His dad taught him how to dribble by driving a truck with pete hanging out the window and dribbling for christ sake.

the year after he retired, the celtics team maravich would've been on won the title
the hawks teams he were on never accepted him from the outset because he didn't fit into their mold of play, basically because of his showmanship and shoot-first mentality
oh yeah, his all-time NCAA points record of 3,667 - DONE IN THREE YEARS
he and oscar robertson would be 1-2 never-to-be-touched-again if they had both played four years
in conclusion, in the NBA playoffs, i'd still take Bird

Waluigi All American 2384 Posts user info edit post |
no, im comparing them b/c theyre both known for making crazy, unorthodox shots
now, if i wanted a ballhandling batte, i would have said Pete vs. Magic or Pete vs. Oscar Robertson 4/18/2006 4:48:35 PM |
Fermata All American 3771 Posts user info edit post |
Magic would have to bring the ball up with his back to the defender.
Take away the fast break which they ran and the fact that he has 6'9" and his APG/ballhandling isn't that impressive. 4/18/2006 4:50:50 PM |

Stockton, Robertson, Pistol, Cousy, Rick Barry, Magic, Isaiah Thomas, and Jason Kidd in an 8-man tournament
actually, add a Nate Archibald-Jason Kidd play-in game to that 4/18/2006 4:55:13 PM |
