message_topic.aspx?topic=198048

right around 2 years ago, i locked myself out of my car. busted the lock mechanism shit on the drivers side trying to get in with a slim jim. basically whatever i did fucked the outside handle up -- so you cant get in through the drivers side unless you reach in the window and open it from the inside

normally when i'm at home, i just leave the drivers window cracked a bit so i dont have to crawl through the passenger side. but after getting it rained in a few times, i would leave the passenger side unlocked so i could just open it and reach through and open my door

but now im in the habit of leaving it unlocked, and ive had 2 CD players stolen. so i need to fix the handle on the drivers side. i took the door apart and it doesnt look too hard. just need the parts. where can i get that shit for cheap?

its probably not broken, just the metal bar is out of place from the slim jim hitting it.

you would need to take the door panel off and if the bar is out of place, all you gotta do is slap it back in.

dont those sentras only have a door lock on the drivers side?

^ its probably an easy fix, like just clipping the rod back into the handle

This is insanely easy to do on a sentra, too.

Just a few screws, and that clip holding the window roller in.

There's a bunch of thin wire bars in there and if one of them gets bent (this happened to me in the exact same way it happened to you) the door won't unlock properly.

Should take about ten minutes.

so does the drivers side lock work from the outside? can you lock and unlock the door?

is the problem the outside handle only?

checkout behind the door handle and see if anything is out of place. i cant really tell from those pics.

maybe match all those rods and assemblys with the pass. side door, those rods are suppose to be bent in different places, but who knows where.

i dont think the lock works from the outside

im not sure cause the HANDLE doesnt work from the outside. i can only open it from the inside

in the 2nd pic, that rod that is going towards the bottom of the door (has the green connector on it) find out what it goes to.

check your pass. door to see which rods you are missing.

werd.

now if you can find the name of those parts. or at least find a way to tell a junkyard that, they can probably just hook you up for free if they are just little bars and shit

What really sucks is that I had a driver's side door for a '94 Sentra sitting in my garage for a couple of months...until I took it to the dump.
