know what these are?
look closely and guess what they could be...
PENS WITH HIDDEN CAMS?
you've just seen what is to replace your PC in the future....
NOW SEE THIS...
In the revolution of miniature computers, the scientists are ahead with bluetooth technology... See the forthcoming computers within our pockets .
This pen instrument produces both the monitor as well as the keyboard on flat surfaces from where you can just carry out the normal operations you do on your desktop.
Are you ready for this????
So what do you think??????? Real or Hoax??? 4/20/2006 10:22:20 AM |

the projection keyboard thing is real. It's been out for a couple years, but has serious usability issues because of lack of tactile feedback. Dunno about the projection monitor thing. Looks like it would only work in near darkness, and certainly wouldn't be too bright or last too long.
real or not, it's a novel concept and worth developing to see where it goes 4/20/2006 10:47:16 AM |

yeah that keyboard idea would suck...if you can't feel anything you're not sure what key you're hitting. thats the same reason i sometimes have trouble dialing on my touchscreen phone. 4/20/2006 11:00:29 AM |

I'm not really sure the lack of tactile feedback is that damning for the keyboard... I've used something similar and it wasn't that much of a hindrance. I think if it comes down to the tiny ass buttons you have to hunt and peck for on a mobile device, and its optionally projected keyboard, the projected keyboard will probably be a little more user friendly... 4/20/2006 3:31:19 PM |

its one of those things that will still just be a gadget. there are too many things that get done on computers that require more than those kind of novelties have to offer.
no one is going to be able to game or would wnat to game on something like that. no one is going to be rendering video on that thing. so they wont be replaing computers imo 4/20/2006 9:01:41 PM |

^ I got to, I'm old. But the keyboard thing I think it has a big potential use in places where u don't have the real space for a keyboard, you can project it to a wall or the floor, or in a place like an operating room where u need averything to be sterilized. 4/21/2006 9:20:44 AM |

That's got to be one of the most retarded form factors I've ever seen for a concept.
If you're going to design something like that, you don't start with a pen and reverse engineer a damn computer out of it. You start with a computer and engineer it to be as portable as a pen. There are already cell phones that can do all the shit that that sci-fi arrangement can do, but with the advantage of looking like you aren't carrying 5 pens at the same time... 4 of which are completely useless when you lose even one of them, from the looks of it.
IMHO, tactile feedback is really important for a keyboard, not only for orientation but for ergonomics. It would be pretty painful to be tapping your fingers on a surface for hours without any yield. You'd probably get used to it, but I'm just sayin'.
Well, he's probably not meant to be taken seriously anyway. That guy in the top pic looks like he's about to bust out some card tricks or something.

I couldn't use that keyboard, I mean, it would simply be impossible. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I am not typing, I rest my fingers on the homekeys.
The monitor seems like a cool idea though.
and what about the mouse? 4/22/2006 1:02:55 AM |

projected screen and projected touchpad area are good ideas (imo), but i agree with the keyboard issue...i mean, i carry a full-sized rubberized soft keyboard with me (because of work i need to have a USB keyboard for computers that don't use keyboards, and it's nice that it's pretty much impervious to water damage), and it rolls up to be pretty small...at the same time, it doesn't feel right to type on 4/22/2006 4:37:40 PM |

It is. it failed horribly in user testing. As did the rollup keyboards.
And all of the crap posted at the top of the page is old technology. The keyboard is a good 5-6 years old from a concept standpoint, the laser projector is coming out on mass market items this year.
The real stupid problem is everything is somehow magically "wireless and bluetooth". They would eat through any battery you could fit in the tiny casing, and bluetooth is retardedly low bandwidth for what you'd need to be pushing wirelessly.
Stupid concept, really old styling.4/23/2006 10:14:21 PM |

So do you need all the pens for this thing to work? It's like the Voltron of computers. It's one weakness? Losing one of the lions pens.
BTW... why make it look like a pen in the first place?
