I, too, was found via Monster.com, but in order to keep from appearing like he was coming to me, my employer coerced me into killing and eating my predecessor in a primal rite of usurpation. It's solid work, but sooner or later I'm going to have to fight to the death to keep a new hire from murdering me and taking my place. 4/21/2006 4:53:35 PM |

The only bad thing about monster jobs is you get calls from recruiting agencies. The good thing is that they can find you a job, the bad thing is they take a cut of your pay for 6 months. If you can coax them into naming the firms they are hiring for, bs around and tell them you are waiting to hear about another job you applied for. In the mean time, apply directly for jobs at those firms, and get paid more and start with health insurance and full benefits instead of having to wait 6 months for a "probationary period".

1) Applied online via company webpage 2) Phone Interview #1, On-site interview, Phone Interview #2 3) Got offer, Accepted ... and profit
That's how I got my current job ... how I got other job offers is a much longer list.

Decided the industry I wanted to work in (HVAC design), went to the professional organization's website, picked a region that I wanted to move to, and emailed all the officers for that chapter. One of them forwarded my resume to his boss, resulting in an immediate interview and a job offer several weeks later. You don't even have to actually know anyone for networking to work in your favor. 4/21/2006 5:39:08 PM |

My Bro ran into a guy at his 10 yr High School Reunion (i knew him too), week later i get a call, week after get an interveiw, another week or so job offer.
i ended up with 2 offers at the dame time. The second was thru a lady at my part-time-till-i-find-a-job job.
i've been work since november grad last may
both are engineering consulting firm.
Thats one the best ways to get a job. i got no interviews thru hotjob.com, monster, etc...

When I was at Cambridge, we got several emails from international companies recruiting Gates Scholars; at the time, I was planning to stay on for a PhD, but I kept the emails just in case.
Fast forward a year and now I'm living in Houston, not doing a PhD. So I pulled out those emails, sent a note and a resume to the recruiting folks at the office in London, asking if they have someone I could get in touch with at their Houston office about an interview. Never touched any of their online application channels, just dealt directly with their recruiting managers... profit! 4/24/2006 3:36:08 PM |
