the window on my toyota is sliding down by itself - the automatic mechanism inside isn't holding it up ar able to move it. this just happened yesterday when i tried to put the window down, i heard a lot of loud clicks and then a snap of some sort and the window just slides up and down with a little force.
where can i go around here to get it fixed for cheap? 4/21/2006 4:48:59 PM |

Yepper. The 'yoters use a cable regulator assembly that frequently shits the bed. I replaced both of the front ones in a '94 Camry a couple of months ago.
Get brand new motor/regulator assemblies. Siemens is a huge supplier of these, and I can also get Dorman-boxed ones. Advance has them, and damn near everybody else too. They're not terribly hard to replace either. 4/21/2006 7:03:08 PM |

you want to go to the dealer and get the regulator, toyota has improved the design 4/21/2006 11:36:03 PM |

Fuck the dealer. They wanted WAAAYYYY too much money for them when I called.
The ones that I can get have metal gearcases and spools, whereas the original design factory ones were plastic (and pretty much flew apart). 4/22/2006 3:10:44 AM |

the last one I got from toyota was $60, the one before that was maybe $90. 4/22/2006 7:20:22 AM |

yeah, toyota is surprising cheap on those things, lower than most aftermarket regulators
btw, you need the whole assembly, with the cables and rails and everything, not just the motor 4/22/2006 10:58:17 AM |

Motor, regulator, and all?
None of the dealershits quoted me that low for the whole damn thing. Not even ANY of the online (yeah, we know how much of a bargain they REALLY are) sites had 'em very cheap.4/22/2006 8:33:11 PM |

in a camry you dont need to replace the motor on a failed regulator, you reuse it 4/24/2006 12:23:35 AM |

i don't think it's the motor - i can still hear it whirring when i press the button.
i think the wire just came off something it needs to be on.
69 or one of you wanna take a look at it and see if i do need to go buy somethin tomorrow? 4/24/2006 3:05:26 AM |

this happened in a friend of mine's camry, the cable just pulled through the motor. I just locked the window in place with a hose clamp because he didn't have the money to fix it. it's actually water tight 4/24/2006 6:08:38 AM |

^ did he get that fixed recently? i put a passenger side regulator in a camry a couple weeks ago held up by hose clamp

no, just the regulator
some shit is radomly cheap, i had to put a regulator in a 99 beetle, and it comes as a massive sheetmetal assembly that covers the whole inside of the door, and it was only $70, surprised the hell out of me
