so we've all seen the 1984 Mac Superbowl commercial (http://youtube.com/watch?v=z9PQ16KVntQ) and some screenshots of old PC and Mac magazine ads, but I hadn't seen the full 16 page Mac ad in Newsweek in 1984. It's pretty cool. A couple things that jump out are that the Tool Pallette in MacPaint on page 3 is almost identical to my tool pallette in Photoshop 7 (albiet with much few options, but the icons are the same, and in nearly the same arrangement), and of course, a young Bill Gates giving his endorsement on page 10! http://toastbucket.com/apple1984ad/p10.html 4/26/2006 7:19:46 PM |

I just love this ad. It's so amazing to think about the context it was for. Imagine selling a mouse to someone who has never used one before. Explaining cut and paste. I have a hard time coming up with words for it, it's so part of my daily life, but they explained it - well enough to sell it! 4/26/2006 9:30:55 PM |

kind of.... it's hard to imagine that PC-DOS or MS-DOS or anything other than Macintosh didn't just sink and die right then and there and Mac didn't become by far the dominant OS for good. Incredibly smart moves were made by some, and very bad moves were made by others to put us at the state computer OS's and software is today.4/26/2006 9:35:00 PM |

It came true, just not quite in the way they expected 4/26/2006 10:03:21 PM |
