9. Why not? I can't see being enriched by reliving the women's rights movements of the 60s and 70s. It happened. We're equal. Lets be happy. And why isn't there a mens studies program? Oh, because that's sexist.

1 no 2 & 3 I’ve heard of women’s studies programs in general, I’m not sure what specifically I’ve heard about for ncsu. 4 & 5 No. 6 It’s not disinteresting material, but getting 1 major in 4 years is a lot work (especially if you switched majors more than once, or had physical injuries to slow you down, or deaths in the family etc) so there isn’t time for it if you are already going for something vocational like engineering or something else that you have an even stronger interest in like philosophy. 7 Yes 8 All academic courses have a chance to show me new information. Being a CHASS major in general you still get several professors who focus a little bit on gender issues, so I don’t think women’s study’s would be that novel or deep, but I enjoy being a student so if I had the time I would have gotten something out of a women’s studies class. 9 N/A 10 Yes 11 Yes 12 NO 13 Its not necessary, but there might be something lost without balance. 14 No. Lots of CHASS classes are like that. 15 No, I haven’t knowingly met anyone who meets the criteria as I recall. 16 Probably the rolls of women through history, important women through history, women characters in literary works like Medea & Lady MacBeth, women’s rights stuff, etc 17 Probably the same stuff that goes on in a regular class room. 18 Someone else paying for the class. Women’s issues are interesting, but there are so many interesting classes at NCSU that I didn’t get to take & I’m a graduating senior, it would take someone paying for the class to bump it high enough on the list. 19 N/A 20 Someone very interested in women’s issues. (of course people think of the stereotypes used in jokes, but I think most people can distinguish between that & reality) I’ve person met people who met & others who break the stereotype, but either way that are people very interested in women’s issues. 1. No 2. Yes 3. No 4. No 5. No 6. Seems like it'd appeal to women mainly. 7. Yes. 8. I love discussing gender roles and such, but I do not like the title being "Women's Studies." But don't get me wrong, I also love to study women. 10. No - only if it was called "Gender Studies" rather than "Women's Studies (and Gender Studies)" 11. No. 12. No. 13. Because the title makes it for women only. 14. Hm, I find it hard to believe there's a single class at NCSU with more women than men. 15. No. 16. No comment. 17. Discussions, papers. 18. I would take it to discuss contemporary gender roles. 20. I think of those girls you see in Brooklyn that would be happy if they woke up tomorrow and all the men in NYC were gone. 21. Realistically, perhaps someone who is conscious of the female struggle in contemporary society?

13. Why? If you only hear about any group from inside the group, you get a skewed view. If you only hear about any group from the outside, you also get a skewed view. To understand anyone or any group you have to both understand (although not necissarily agree with), both what other think of them and what they think of themselves. it's far too easy to fall into extreeme and frankly, stupid, viewpoints if you dont balance your sources.

I feel myself to be a feminist for daily proving myself the equal of my male classmates and peers, even though I have quite a few reservations about where the movement seems to be going, and disagree with quite a few other feminists on many points. There's a wide range of views and degrees of vocalness, not to mention degrees of extreemism. Many arent, many are.

why do so many CSC folks think that the humanities are "easy A" courses?

1. Yes 2. skip 3. skip 4. No 5. No 6. Already have a major and minor that interest me more. Also hard to see a future career in that path. 7. Yes 8. Always enjoy learning new things, especially if they are political in nature. 10. Yes 11. Yes 12. Yes 13. Is this just for 12 or the last 3? anyway, yes because every topic needs multiple points of view to be effective. 14. No 15. In the one I took a larger percentage of the class seemed to be liberal than in other politics classes. 16. History of womens movement, womens rights issues today, women's POV of other, not neccisarrily "gender specific" issues (such as gay marriage). 17. Activities? I mean, papers and out of class reading, like any other CHASS class. 18. Skip 19. It filled a requirement for my major, and seemed interesting. Plus Greene is an awesome instructor. 20. goddamnit... I get so sick and tired of people telling me that what I do is easy
especially when most people couldn't pull it off half as well as me
its true that the liberal arts can be as easy as you choose to make them however, it goes the other way too
and if you ever want to get published you have to bust ass to get there

This is usually the truth, especially if the essay topic is broad and you have discussed it in class a lot. Sometimes they are difficult if you get a very narrow topic to write on.
But not all humanities classes are the same, there are easy ones and hard ones, just like math and engineering classes.

Even being a humanities guy myself, I don't see that much merit in a multidisciplinary study as a major. Sure as a minor it is good, but really what career (or graduate program) does it prepare you for?

wtg, im sure he meant 200 lvl humanities. i dont beleive they are easy A's. i got a B+ once (maybe 2x) in my various sociology, psychology, etc electives. i dont read the book though, so thats mostly if they throw in those trick questions.
i guarantee you could get a lot more out of those electives than i did if you tried, but lets not front; humanities are a lot easier for engineering majors than the other way around. 4/28/2006 9:29:29 AM |

^agreed there. Yes, I took 200 level humanities courses. But there were people majoring in that shit struggling. I took PS205 and didn't even buy the book and got an A+. I took some harder humanities. EC301 and EC302, EC305, EC340 (econ minor). Didn't breeze through those but they were a HELL OF A LOT easier than my 300 and 400 CSC courses. 4/28/2006 10:27:42 AM |

depends on the kind of humanities & the kind of non humanities course you are taking. some physics classes, like the astronomies are ridiculously easy as are some intro engineering classes. some 200 level humanities, like medieval philosophy, can be challenging. 4/28/2006 10:43:10 AM |

My humanities courses: Modern American History, Modern European History, Intro to American Government, Intro to Philosophy, Intro to Economics, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Financial Markets and Institutions, History and Technology, Free Market Analysis.
