I was the high bidder, but it went for below reserve. I can now pick up the two skis and the trailer for $1825 on a 2nd chance offer. Either my roommate or I will have to drive about 9 hours to pick them up, but it's doable, since he doesn't really have anything to do right now. Is this a killer deal, or should I hold out (we're not in any real hurry)?

what was your bid before the trailer?

i doubt he wants to hang on to the trailer since it was custom for the 2 skis, so if i he asking a good bit more for it then he would probably come down......but if it's not much more than you bid then go for it....it will save you the hastle of loading them on a regular trailer

no, that $1825 is for both skis and the trailer.

he isn't going to come down--it's already less than his reserve price was, and someone else bid almost as much as I did...

My roommate and I just made a quick bid on them because we were pretty sure it was a really good deal...now I'm just trying to make sure that we really should jump on it and not hold out for a better deal or different skis or something.

yeah, i'd say it's a deal. if i remember from the other thread, the 750 was a '94 and the 650 an '87. Assuming both are in good condition, I'd expect to pay $1200 or so for the 750 and about $800 or so for the 650. So $1825 for both AND the trailer seems like a pretty fair deal, leaves some room for a bit of wear on the standups. if you've got the cash, i say go for it.

as long as they run i think its a good deal, they look like there in good shape, see if u can get some pics of the intake and hull, make sure thats not cracked/not beat up

yeah, check the condition of the motor mounts, the impeller (including intake housing and exhaust nozzle), the hull as mentioned, the trailering hook and nose, and any other high-stress parts. or at least have him take detail pictures of those things since driving to check it out isnt really an option. also check for extensive oil residue on the inside-bottom of the hull around the motor, etc


the hull can (and will) have some nicks, scratches, and dings, wont hurt a thing...mainly you're looking for stress fractures in the fiberglass and LARGE gouges that can affect structural integrity and/or impede water flow.

ideally i'd get one of each. sit downs may be boring but they're a lot more useful. when playtime's over and you're exhausted, it'd be nice to hop on the sit-down and haul ass to a landing and git you some food. and it's not like you cant have fun on a sitdown. you really just need to make the call based on what you plan on using it for.

I've never ridden a stand-up, but it seems to me that riding a stand-up ski and screaming along at 70mph/being able to accelerate really hard would both be fun in their own ways.



That's where I'll be riding. The red dot is the marina, the 4 green dots are the places I'd be likely to want to ride the ski to. (1 on the FL/AL line...cool beach bar there called the Flora-Bama. One just south of the marina...one in between those two on the beach...one at Pensacola Beach, which is the place I'd be most interested in riding to.)

I know it wouldn't be any big deal on a sit-down ski...I don't know if it would suck to make that trip on a stand-up.

to be honest, i think you'd be hating yourself making those trips on a standup. i mean i could be thrown off by the scale, but it looks like a bit of a ride...and after the first 15 minutes of having fun on it and negotiating the surf, you're REALLY going to miss having a seat, some power, and some momentum. not to say it cant be done on a standup, but you'd probably need to condition yourself to it for a while before making that kind of trip worth it.

Pensacola Beach is about 10 miles.

the water is generally relatively calm, though...not like a lake or anything, but there are some days that the swells on the Gulf don't ever break or even get above a couple of feet.


but yeah, i have to wonder if a small, standup ski with a top speed in the low-mid 40s would really be a reasonable machine to make that trip on.

u will not be happy making those trips on a standup, so if thats your primary use of a jetski, get a sitdown.....but for overall fun a standup cannot be beat

if u want speed go for the sit down, but u just wanna fool around get the stand up....i know u want both but u cant have everything unless u get both.

its gonna come down to, what u think u will be doing more, i would say sit down, def more versatile

Yeah, as much as I'd love to have a stand-up, I'm thinking that a sit-down model is probably what I oughta get.

I'm thinking Ultra 150...lots of power/speed, still relatively small and light, aggressive and sharp-handling hull (from what people have told me), and since they've been out since '99 and they're simple 2-strokes, you can get them pretty cheap.

I also found a pair of 2001 Sea-Doo XPs on a double trailer for like $5400, and my roommate will go in half with me. They aren't exactly what I want, but especially if he'll come down a couple hundred bucks, it would be a real deal (the Ultras are going for around $4000 or so).

If I found one of those supercharged Sea-Doo RXPs for a price I couldn't refuse, I'd prob ante up and go for it.


Anything else I should look for? I want major speed and power, and light/nimble is preferable to big/heavy/3 seats. Relatively inexpensive never hurt anyone, either.





plus, I figure I'll eventually stumble across a dirt cheap stand-up. I saw a no-reserve auction for a Kawasaki 550sx end with zero bids and a starting price of $50. I could've picked it up for that price + whatever it would cost to ship the thing to FL from AZ.

oh man id like to have an ultra 150. i have an older 900zxi thats hooked way up.

I rode a standup on lake norman, and while fun as hell, you can forget going any distance on one, granted the water is mad rough out on the main part of the lake, id imagine where you are wouldnt be a whole lot better.

plus dude, you're forgettin about the ladies on the ski, cant get a bitch on a standup with ya

well ive got a 2001? XL760 3 seater, and granted it is huge and way underpowerd, it is light as hell...you can throw it around so much easier than the new ones. My buddy has a FX HPO and id much rather prefer mine

but cant go wrong with the sit down, i think u made a better decison

might snag an Ultra 150 in Baton Rouge this weekend if i can get it for the right price.

'01 model with a trailer, described as "low hours". 3" tear on seat upholstery. i figure that anything $3500 or under constitutes a good enough deal that i won't be likely to do any better if i keep holding out for a steal.
