I was about to go to Central to mock the vigil people the night we executed the 1,000th person, when somebody made a joke about how I'd probably get on camera and it would come back to haunt me if I ever ran for office.
It occurred to me that they were kidding on the square, and that even most Republicans would think twice about the kind of person who pointed and laughed at someone who was trying to save someone else's life.
I did, however, get several rounds of applause for the things I yelled at the protestors who were being dragged off at the inauguration. 4/29/2006 7:40:50 PM |

Sorry if I didn't clarify.
I am trying to understand where the murder victim plays into the vigil. I'm not attempting to argue anything--just trying to understand. Thanks.

The victim doesn't play into anywhere. These people don't support death as a punishment, period. 4/29/2006 9:00:01 PM |

I'm not that bad, you guys.
Many of you do not even post your own opinions. You just wait until someone posts his and then you attack it.
I have said some amazingly stupid shit on here, but I'm a genius so being wrong is cool.

^You are right. I am going to assume that all who attend a vigil are there for either a moratorium or the abolition of the death penalty.

I was not confused about the reason the vigil holders were there.

what are you wondering about the relationship. if this is a horrible way of saying that they don't care about the victim you are doing a horrible job of saying it. 4/29/2006 10:13:27 PM |

I do not think in any way that the vigil holders do not care about the victim. If they care enough for a convict about to get executed they would certainly care about a murder victim.

What do you want the vigil people to do for the victim? 4/29/2006 10:25:36 PM |

Although I am not confused about the vigil holders' reasons for holding the vigil, I was attempting to understand the relationship between the victim, the person about to be executed and the vigil holders.
Just so to let it be known, I do not support the death penalty and am not trying to prove any point. Just looking for clarification.

the person about to be executed probably killed the victim. the vigil people wish to save the life of the person about to be executed.
its not that complicated. now then. if you want you can ask "do they care about the victim?" but i thought i addressed that with the "killing another person wont bring the victim back to life" 4/29/2006 10:35:01 PM |
Superman Suspended 586 Posts user info edit post |
RevoltNow,
You are completely right. Killing the convict will not bring the victim back. This is why I do not support the death penatly: Because killing someone who killed to show killing is wrong is illogical.
More directly, I am curious as to how the victim of the murder connects to the vigil holders.

They don't! 4/29/2006 10:38:58 PM |
Superman Suspended 586 Posts user info edit post |
On the surface, the murder victim does not appear to connect to the vigil holders. This is true.
But, I am trying to understand the victim in connection the vigil holders because the convict is also a murder victim because of the state-sanctioned murder.
So, the vigil holders might be actually protesting both the execution and the murder that eventually lead to the execution as a way of protesting killing in our society.

there is only one answer here
they hate freedom, therefore they are glad the victim is dead. 4/29/2006 10:51:20 PM |

The murder happened long ago and nobody can change that. The vigil is for the execution, and they're trying to show the gov they oppose capital punishment. The victim is kindof out of the picture at that point.4/29/2006 10:59:05 PM |
