I'm looking for a new puppy, and I was wondering is this possible?

Its a defective breed... pick a new one.Oh, and I doubt you find bulldogs at a reasonable price... they pretty much always have to be born through Cesarean section and that is not cheap.

Just go to the SPCA and pick out a damn dog.

You do know that getting purebreeds is status only. Most purebreeds are NIGHTMARES with vet bills. That 1k dog is gonna be a 10k dog by age 10.
5/6/2006 7:45:44 AM
eh, i had a purebreed Champion-bloodline Cocker Spaniel growing up and her bills weren't that bad.

I've had bulldogs all of my life, and breed them too. If you are, it isn't going to be of GREAT quality, but you can get them. Make sure that you check out the breeders very well. When you look at the puppies its very important to look at its skin, ears, eyes, and to ask about the history of its hips and breathing problems in the family. We have never had problems with a bulldog and its health, but maybe we were lucky. If you want to get a good, pet quality bulldog, look for one with a slightly longer snout. The more squished in it is, the more likely you are to have issues. If you need anything else, just PM frugal_qualm.I'm using my boyfriends name.

I just got my bulldog puppy last Friday. She is so awesome. I wouldn't pay less than 1K for a bulldog pup because a top breeder would never charge so little. My breeders give a one year health guarantee with all their puppies. They also come with a health certificate from a qualified vet that has vast experience with bulldogs. Look at the family history for an idea of health problems. I live in Greensboro and about 45 minutes away in Welcome, NC there is a vet that is a bulldog owner/expert. His rates are amazingly affordable. If you get a quality puppy, you aren't going to be spending near what has been said in this thread. Do your homework and you'll be fine.[Edited on May 6, 2006 at 9:47 AM. Reason : .]

My bulldog just came into heat. If I can find a stud for her, I'll see if my parents will come down on the cost of a puppy (they're footing the vet bills).

Well, I figured there IS a reason that all the EB prices I've seen are in the $1500-2k range. I was just wondering if I was going to buy a retard if spent less than $1k on one.Oh, and I'm only a college student for another 6 days, so that's basically why I'm getting a dog in the first place.

I saw a few for sale in the Charlotte Observer for 1k, and several whose price is north of that.I could probably spend 1.5k if I knew I was getting a good dog.
5/6/2006 11:07:29 AM
my dog is cute, very well behaved, and playful. she was free.
5/6/2006 11:38:59 AM
Why in the hell would anyone want to spend over a grand for a dog is beyond me.

go adopt a fucking doggoddamn people
5/6/2006 12:29:18 PM
^^ He was right, a true breeder wouldn't be able to sell it for less than a grand because the breeding costs are so high if you do it correctly. Bulldogs arn't like the dogs where you leave them alone in a room with a stud when shes in heat, then a couple months later she hides in a closet and has a litter. There is sooo much that goes into it.

5/6/2006 6:00:13 PM
several guys who work with me have them and they have constant health problems. don't do it dave. you will regret it
5/6/2006 8:03:11 PM
HAHA, think on this. Are you prepared to pay $1,000 for a puppy. Once that's done, are you prepared to pay for it's food, shot's, neutering, regular bills. NEXT, are you ready to pay for years and years of health problems that EVERY english buldog posesses? If so, the vet on Kildaire farm road specializes in bulldogs.

shit, with $1500 I could buy a decent horse with no papers in some parts of the country. But 1000 for an unhealthy, short dog that looks like it got into a fight with a wall and lost, badly?Don't you want a real dog?

you have serious intelligence problems if you pay 1K+ for a fucking dog

I have a half english - half american bulldog that we bought for $200. Wdidn't want a full blooded benglish because they have really bad hip problems, so the breeder breeds them this way on purpose. Roxy is the most loveable creature ever and we have had her for 4 years. She sleeps at the foot of my bed everynight in her foot and a half tall, 80lb package. One reason why they are pricey is become of the pregnancy. All bulldogs must have a c-section, which is several thousand dollars, and the breeders also pay vet bills, vaccines, food, etc. Our breeder also told us that bull dog moms are dumbasses and roll over on the puppies without knowing so they have to take a lot of care of them.anyways, here's my baby:http://thewolfweb.com/photo_photo.aspx?user=25906&photo=455401[Edited on May 7, 2006 at 3:42 AM. 5/7/2006 8:33:24 AM
like someone said, if you were gonna breed or show them, itd be worth it. otherwise you are dumb.

I had an English, Savannah. She had a lot of health problems, if you don't pay 1k from the jump, you'll pay 10k over the first year. She had a 1500 surgery when she was 9 weeks old. She had to have health insurance, which still didn't cover everything and it was $60 a month. Her breathing and eyes were constantly bad, and in the weather here, she couldn't go on walks in the summer. Its a VERY defective breed even when purchasing from a good breeder. (Savannah cost us 2600 as a puppy) Her parents, and all of the other puppies born from them had no history, or reports of problem. She was the only one in this kennel's history to be this bad (so what i'm saying is even when spending a lot you never know). I loved her, but just as those dogs are expected she lasted only 7 years. I will never buy another english, its a huge expense, and not at ALL smart for a college student.[Edited on May 7, 2006 at 11:21 AM. Reason : family]
