coaches that are better than amato and are currently available/coaching at smaller schools:
Mike Price Frank Solich Rick Neuheisel Butch Davis Dennis Erikson
we already lost a shot at Dan Hawkins thanks to the magical run to the Carcare Bowl 5/7/2006 12:49:35 PM |

Listen.
I learned my lesson.
HOLD OFF ON THE FIRING COACH THREAD UNTIL WE GET RID OF FOWLER.
WE ARE NOT GETTING SOLICH, PRICE, DAVIS, ERICKSON (who the fuck wants neuheisel honestly id rather have amato).
With Fowler heading up the search we'd probably end up with Lavar Fisher or Jamie Barnette as coach. 5/7/2006 1:00:24 PM |

Hey, guess what? Herb's gone. Get over it and move on. I was a Herb Supporter until he left. Now I'm a Lowe supporter.
Amato isn't God's gift to football by any stretch of the imagination, but the guy ain't going anywhere for a while. But if Cowher ever decides to retire from the NFL, I'll be the first to get behind that cause with fuckin' bells on. 5/7/2006 1:42:09 PM |

In all seriousness, I didnt know Neuheisel did all of that at Colorado.
But the office pool issue? Thats a weak reason to blackball a coach. But yeah, I totally didnt know about him doing that much at CU.
But just think if we had Solich, with the corps of RBs we have right now... 5/7/2006 5:18:52 PM |

^^ Me? Where am I raving over Lowe getting the job?
That's not me.
I'm supporting the guy, and im clearing up the fact that his NBA record is not useful for drawing conclusions. I think he can recruit, but Lowe is totally unproven. I'm excited about the coaching change, but I'm not predicting great things by any stretch of the imagination. 5/7/2006 5:32:57 PM |

^I was worried about recruiting as well, but with the coaching staff he's puting together things are looking better and better. Keeping Harris is huge, and Towe should help out a lot with all of the coaching experience he has. I did hear that Towe might have been the one responsible for the ncaa violations at florida when he was the assistant under sloan, but that was a long time ago. I dont think he's sniffed trouble in a long time. If we can land strickland on top of the 2 assisntants we have right now, I think we could be nasty in a few years. 5/7/2006 5:51:07 PM |

has there ever been a time when a top coach retires from the nfl and decides to coach a college team? cowher, though fun to think about, will never ever happen. probably a better shot at him taking fowlers job 5/7/2006 6:47:42 PM |
rallydurham Suspended 11317 Posts user info edit post |
^ maybe he's nearly burned out from the long hours and dedication the NFL takes.
He's won a Super Bowl and he's got the most tenure by far of any head coach in the NFL.
Maybe in a few years he will be ready to take a less demanding job. You know so he could see his family, play some golf, have a social life, etc.
I don't think this is far-fetched at all, and I think Cowher could definitely build a top-notch program... 5/7/2006 7:30:47 PM |

we do not want Solich the man is an insult to the game and would be a repeat Herb Sendek! In order to have a decent running game you must develop the o line! By getting rid of Barry, our o line will be fine, and these threads will be negated completly! 5/7/2006 7:33:11 PM |

Solich divided the fanbase, was not media friendly (Sendek)
They specialized in defense first and a well-developed ground game I was born in NE and raised a Husker
By the way Amato has a 9 win season, we dont have to kill for one like it... 5/7/2006 8:41:49 PM |

in other words, NC State's expectations are waaay below Nebraska. I grew up w/ half the family as Bama fans. I aim high, but i also have things in perspective.
Solich would not divide the NC State fanbase, they dont (or shouldnt) expect NCs. If he won 8 games a year and won a couple bowls like the Peach and not the Carcare, then people would go fucking nuts. Likewise, if Amato can win 8 games a year and not say stupid shit and discipline the team and develop a QB whose name isnt River, ill shut up.

Eh, Price is too old. It also took him like 10 years to have his first 10 win season.
He was a very mediocre coach (win-wise) until his last 3 seasons. He averaged like 5 wins a year his first 8 years. They can have him.
Not saying he's no good... he had Wazzu playing well towards the end... but it would take longer than what Price could give to make UNC dominant. He's no Mack Brown5/7/2006 11:32:30 PM |

if youve ever complained about any of our teams playing weak schedules, then youll have to admit that we won 9 games in 2002. one of the teams we beat doesnt even exist anymore.

Me either. And one of the main gripes about Herb was his scheduling. His were way tougher than Chuck's. I mean our main OOC opponent this year and last is Southern Miss.
It was South Florida. Don't give them that much credit. Central Florida is a better school athletically than South Florida.
BTW I don't want Chuck fired. I will give him 3 years to turn this around. I think it will. At the end of last year it appeared like he had caught on to RUNNING the ball and winning.5/8/2006 9:56:13 AM |
