How Kobe Bryant gets 1st team i have no clue. And I love Billups but Gerald Wallace got robbed! Billups averaged 3.1 reboudns, .88 steals, and .10 blocks a game. Wallace averaged 7.5 rebounds, 2.51 steals, and 2.09 blocks a game, and ranked number 1 in the NBA in steals.

Thoughts?

It's because he's not high profile. Also, if the Bobcats had a more consistent bigman and played better team defense then his numbers wouldn't be so high.

But mostly it's because he's not high profile.

Is this really a sport?

These all go together and I don't consider them sports:

WWF, NBA, Roller Derby, Iron Chef, etc.

All forms of entertainment but pretty boring.

^that's it exactly...people hear these generalizations from other people and just adopt them as their own, because they think its cool to hate on the NBA

you guys are forgetting a key statistic.

Games played 05-06

Chauncey Billups - 81 games (every game except the last, where he sat out)

Gerald Wallace - 55 games

missing ~30 games pretty much takes you out of the running for extremely high accolades.

btw, Billups has played at least 77 games for the last 6 years.

Wallace has never, ever played more than 70 in his career. (5 years)

Stay healthy...get the awards.

If basketball is not a sport, then there is no such thing as sports. Basketball involves more physical ability than almost any sport - running, jumping, hand/eye coordination, team involvement, reaction, etc. Plus physical gifts like height, strength, speed, agility are as critical in basketball as any major sport.

Nevertheless the NBA All-Defensive team has always had guys on it that were high scorers and didn't deserve mention.

yeah thats true as far as injuries

but the reason he didnt play 70+ games in sacramento wasnt injuries, just depth chart

still though...three players in NBA history have averaged 2+ bpg and 2+ spg for a season...David Robinson, Hakeem Olajuwon and Gerald Wallace

good call Panthro

when you don't play close to a full season, you aren't gonna get the awards...

you think his numbers would be worse if he played 82 games? probably.

Kobe Bryant gets first team all-defensive because he is the nastiest perimeter defender in the nba. Most people who have problems with Kobe dont like his offensive philosphy, but no one can argue that he is one of the top 5 defenders in the NBA

How Kobe gets first team, you have no clue?

Maybe you should watch more basketball.

He's usually assigned to play D against some of the best players night in and night out. He has to use so much energy to play D, and still go out and average some 35 points a game on the other end.

He was top 10 in steals in the regular season and averaged as many blocks a game as Bruce Bowen. He's well deserving of the All-Defensive team and well deserving of the 1st team, at that. If anything, name another guard that was more deserving.

Yeah Kobe is a damn good defender.

That's why he should have gotten the MVP over guys who don't play defense like Nash and Lebron.

In Nash's case he's just too small and has a bad back, its not like he doesnt exert effort. He just gets dominated.

In Lebron's case he just doesn't know how to play defense yet and his effort isn't there yet.
