you simply have to see them live. i really can't direct to their recorded stuff as it pales in comparison.

they are sometimes americana/folkish sorts of stuff. but they mix in rock and experimental elements.

there is improv out the asshole. and harmonizing vocals. they mix in gospel, jazz.

i've seen them do a folked up cover of a pavement song with four part harmony vocals. you really just have to see them.

They are the only band I've ever seen use the piano at Kings.

p.s. spencer's afro has gotten seriously impressive.

these guys are fags.

but i'm ok with 'em: indyweek.gyrobase.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=28075

their bearda are only fronts for their girlyness, especially that of the rhythm section.
fags.

^they're certainly in my top 5 or 6 in town. and they might win for best local release of 2006 (granted, i haven't heard that many and the octobers/nola/maple stave/port huron statement albums are all in the latter stages of completion as we speak and i'm bound to love at least one of these).

holy crap, people. justin has a new cd that may possibly induce extreme mind blowage. it’s called hazeltons, and you’ll kick yourself later if you don’t pick one up now. limited to 100. i’m assuming they’ll have them at the show sunday. if not, you can pick one up at schoolkids. for the sake of good music, get this.

DeYarmond was really good. The set was completely acoustic, and was preceeded by about an hour of hardcore modern dance action.

If this makes me sound uncultured, then so be it, but fuck interpretive dance. Fuck it in its lilting, pretentious asshole.

i'm sad i missed dye (friend really wanted to get home after a weekend of shows and i didn't want to be a jerk and make him stay for it), but not sad i missed interpretive dancing.

although interpretive dancing of exxon's shock n awe would be pretty amazing.
