I really really wanted to get in to this game when I bought it since super metroid was one of my fav console games ever

but I just got so bored I couldn't complete the game more then halfway through, the exploration seemed so cool on the snes but it just seemed monotonous here, almost like the whole selling point of the game was just its graphics

a couple of other die hard fans i talked to agreed and didn't finish the game either even though we've all beat super metroid dozens of times

I've played both Prime and Super Metroid, and I enjoyed them both thoroughly.

But I admit that the exploration in Prime isn't quite as open-ended as it is in Super Metroid. Prime really did play rather linearly. Hell, it even has a hint system (that you can turn off, btw) that, if you take too long, more or less tells you where the next item is. I think that's the primary reason why some people don't enjoy Prime. But it really is not a bad game. Beautiful graphics, nice music score, and the transition from 2-D to 3-D is pretty stellar.

So, for what ever my opinion is worth, I vote yae.

I really enjoyed the first one, but pretty much hated Metroid Prime 2. It seemed so half-assed compared to the first one. As I recall, every single boss was just a big version of a common enemy. Once I got close to the end and found out I would have to go back and find a bunch of keys, I stopped playing. I'll buy Prime 3 for the Wii, though, out of respect for Prime 1 and Super Metroid.

Metroid Prime is one of the best games for the gamecube.

you can turn off the hint system, but if you're lost long enough for it to kick in, maybe you need it.

yay

that game is great. i could see how someone would be bored with it by watching, or even only playing an hour or two of it.

it's one of those games.. the more you dig in, the more you're rewarded

4^ Yes, I agree that Prime 2 wasn't quite as good as Prime. I still liked it, but it really did feel like they didn't try as hard. Remember when you re-acquire the Missile Launcher? You don't have to fight any bosses for it, you find it in a crate. Yes, a damn crate. There's this theory that you were originally suppose to fight the missile trooper to get it, but for some reason you no longer had to.

If you're finding Prime to be boring, you can try mixing it up with some sequence breaking. Like, as soon as you land on Talon IV you can get the Space Jump Boots. Definitely makes for a shorter and more interesting experience.

metroid prime is one of the best games for gamecube, if not the best. prime 2 fucking sucks, it coulda been soooooo much better. you should beat prime, the end half of the game seriously kicks ass and the final boss is one of the most fun fights on any current gen console

finally fired the game back up and am close to beating it now

not sure why I couldn't get in to it before, I guess you just got to remember the environment is the game in this case

I'm trying to finally take advantage of my gamecube which I confess is prob the only system I've bought so far that I had not really gotten my money's worth

what are some other good games besides eternal darkness, prime, and zelda

I kind of wanted to try out fire emblem or paper mario

I've never played any of the Metroid games and will probably download an emulated version of Super pretty soon. Is the overall objective of the games to find suit enhancements scattered throughout whatever world you are on, and blow up creatures?

^^I saw Killer 7 for $15 at Target on Sunday.
^The object of Super Metroid is to recover the last known living metroid and defeat Mother Brain before the space pirates can duplicate it and use the metroids as a weapon. The entire planet is "open" for exploration but large portions of it are unreachable without various suit enhancements. There are special doors that can only be opened with certain weapons and there are tons of rooms/platforms/etc. that can only be reached with special additions to the suit that you find from defeating mini-bosses and stuff.

on the last boss, i've always hated the two part ones ever since megaman2

ridley was a cool fight, he only really gets difficult until you get him down to 15% life

^I think it's one of the best final boss fights ever, two part or no. Rarely do I struggle to defeat the last boss, but when trying to beat Prime, I died so many times I put it down and came back to it the next day.

I also like how when you enter the room to fight the boss, it looks like Mother Brain. I remember seeing what looked like two eyes and an open mouth and was like, how does this make sense?

Viewtiful Joe is another game like this. Another Joe, Fire Leo, King Blue, and Captain Blue were frustrating as hell until you figured them out. I really need to play VJ 2.

viewtiful joe is awesome, but it gets old quick, at least for me.

^But yeah, whoever posted about prime killing you many times, the same happened to me. I don't really dig the second fight, but part one is probably the most fun boss fight I've ever had in a videogame

on eternal darkness, anyone know how to hurt that black guardian boss, he's one of the only main bosses in the game i think

I keep using the magic attack spell but it doesn't seem to be doing anything to him, he's green alignment by the way

I don't remember much but there is a spell you have to use to damage him. You can only use the three pronged spell though, if you use a five or seven prong, it takes too long to cast and he attacks you in the middle of it. I *think* I used red alignment against him. If you have the purple alignment, that will probably work.

Metroid Prime is a game I forced myself to finish just because I paid full price for the game. I admire the level design but I have no desire to play it again. Way too much backtracking.

Viewtiful Joe is a good game but I couldn't beat the last boss. I've wanted to go back and try again but I've forgotten how to play the game so I would probably have to start from the beginning.

heres how I view the game it is enjoyable but very taxing, it takes a lot of effort (not neccesarily hard or time consuming) and is very tiring to me, kinda like shadow of the colossus and its just not one of those games I could play all day, its part of the reason I didn't get echos

I think the series could rival final fantasy, personally I think the battle system is a lot better
