anyone know about how long it should take to install sp1 for windows server 2003?
the system is an IBM netfinity 5100, twin P3 667mhz with 512mb ram
been running for about five hours now, wondering if I should stop it and try again, or if it just takes a while.. its currently sitting at the screen with the windows logo and the moving boxes.. the boxes are still moving, so I'm guessing it hasnt stalled.. 5/16/2006 3:32:51 PM |

My guess is it should take a while... more than 12 hours would be kind of insane though.5/16/2006 3:51:48 PM |

Took one of my co-workers 20-30 minutes on an Itanium server. 5/16/2006 4:45:44 PM |

I remember installing this on an older PowerEdge 2450, PIII-900mhz with 512MB of RAM. It shouldn't take five hours ... clear up some RAM. 5/16/2006 5:48:24 PM |

meh. I canceled (reset) after 8 hours rebooted, it apparently tried to install the service pack again (sat there for 10 min) put in my disk, tried to 'repair' the current install, it ran then rebooted, but bluescreened on the next startup and rebooted on its own. it looped again before I stopped it
currently reinstalling
can I request that it not install service pack 1 and still get the other updates? it was acting like it wanted to install sp1 before it let me install any other update
how do you clear ram? I thought that it cleared on its own when it shutdown, so that when it reboots its a clean slate.. 5/16/2006 9:06:22 PM |

create a slipstreamed install CD for Win2003 with SP1 on it. 5/16/2006 11:34:47 PM |

ah. maybe it installed fine the first time, but I think (atleast for sp2 on xp) it does some setup after restart, which is where it stalled (?)
http://www4.ncsu.edu/~tspfeiff/blackbirdsp1.JPG (big screenshot, downsizing distorts too much)
is where it is at now, I left it downloading overnight and came back to find it there it doesnt look like its doing anything, no cpu usage, low ram usage
^may try that, http://www.enterprisenetworkingplanet.com/netsysm/article.php/3506551 it looks fairly simple
thanks

damn. I dont know how I missed it, but I found a dialoge box when setting up another program. it asked me to click next to continue setup of sp1 it got hidden somehow, and ofcourse it doesnt show up in the taskbar.. I know I didnt click it last time I tried to install sp1, so there must have been another problem. odd. hopefully there wont be an issue w/ this try
thanks again 5/17/2006 11:34:24 AM |
