saw it on the front page of Pack Pride. then read a thread on it. some guy posted his myspace page, so that others could write a comment on his page telling him to stay committed. i don't know, it seems a little weird, but whatever. i hope Lowe is able to keep the commits. we need quality depth.

the fans are passionate. the rbc center is every bit as loud and intense as cameron indoor stadium and there is a TON of excitement with sidney lowe coming in. anyone who has helped coach the pistons to what they are now is going to be great as a coach in my book.
i just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that there are great things going on here. i used to work with the women's bball team and i've seen the behind the scenes basketball stuff and there are great things going on here (also a lot of hot girls, if that matters to you).
if you have any questions, just hit me up. just wanted to let you know that there are great basketball fans here and the program is on the rise.

"Something that has been missing with N.C. State basketball since, well Jim Valvano was there, has been fun. Les Robinson didn't win a lot of games, and certainly, there wasn't a lot of fun. Herb Sendek won some games and went to the NCAA Tournament, but really, it seemed like going to some Pack games under Sendek was like going to the dentist.
New coach Sidney Lowe intends to change that. He wants to win basketball games and have fun doing so. Lowe told his players on Saturday prior to his introductory press conference, that he didn't have a lot of rules. The only thing he asked of his players? Play hard and have fun. When Lowe played at State that's exactly what he did."" |

Dennis Horner is considering his college basketball options.
The Holy Spirit High School senior and The Press Co-Player of the Year signed a letter of intent last October to attend North Carolina State University.
But Herb Sendek, then State's coach, left the school in early April for Arizona State. North Carolina State recently hired Detroit Pistons assistant Sidney Lowe.
Horner's father Edgar said Wednesday his son has asked North Carolina State for a release from his letter of intent. But the father quickly added that his son has not yet signed the release.
Horner, who just turned 18, will play in an AAU tournament in North Carolina next weekend. Edgar Horner said his son and other family members probably will meet with North Carolina State officials that weekend.
Lowe has spoken with Horner's mother Louanne, but Lowe cannot yet speak with Horner because the coach has yet to pass the NCAA's recruiting certification exam. Lowe has not had time to take the test because the Pistons are involved in the NBA playoffs.

he better be able to coach mediocre players to a good record or he will be out of a job come this time next year with our squad.

Bernie Bickerstaff won like 40 games total over the last 2 years with the Bobcats and lost the other ~124
yet he coached the Seattle Sonics to a 60 win season and a trip to the Western Conference Finals before losing to the eventual NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers back in 1988 I believe

It depends though... they do say NBA coaching is strictly X's and O's, match-ups, and that its much more difficult in that regard than college. College is more about recruiting and team management. You can't take a team from worse to first with strictly coaching in the NBA but its possible in college because there is more to development and more variable in general.5/25/2006 4:17:05 PM |
WolfpackKC Veteran 481 Posts user info edit post |
^^^basically your assumption is correct--i dont think coaching really matters in the NBA. by the time most decent players get there they need little coaching or go into development league for it.
but college is a lot different; immature players, physically and mentally, need guidance, not a lack of rules as lowe has suggested. my point is that saying Lowe helped coach a great team does not, and will not, equate into State having a good program when he gets here and starts coaching.
Also, I would hope for Horner's sake that letters from biased fans, would play no part in his decision. I consider my opinion educated, but my words are meant for the ears of oppositely opinionated fans, as are Moody's and anyone else who writes him without credibility.

as far as the loudness of the rbc center: did i hear correctly that at the hurricanes/sabres' game 2 that they recorded the high decibel levels of any sporting event? if so, i would say that our arena loudness would rival just about anyone's. 5/25/2006 4:29:42 PM |

if all of them, obviously some are, were pack fans---and if we were playing in our conference final like the Canes are then maybe
but consistently, duke home basketball games are much louder than state home basketball games, especially during non-conference play
--sendek said he was blown away by the decibel level in reynolds after one of the heritage games and we barely get half of that venue filled for those games, cameron is always filled and always really loud.

well two years ago at the FSU bball game (which we lost ) i saw the decibel meter put on the big screen and it jumped to 121 dB and was sustained at 118 dB. it wasn't even a packed house. yeah right now Cameron is more consistently louder than the RBC Center, but it can definitely get as loud, if not louder, than Cameron. i've had my ears hurt a couple of times this past season during certain games. Wake being the most memorable for me. if we get to being on the level success of the elite teams, then the RBC Center will definitely get packed out more and be way louder. 5/25/2006 8:41:57 PM |

They don't need the same style of coaching that they get in college (developing fundamentals, working with your teammates), but coaching is still a huge part of the NBA.5/25/2006 8:58:03 PM |

i guess i dont see how you can coach some of these guys in the nba; lebron james---didn't even go to college--how do you teach him to play? He doesn't need it, just let him do his thing. With so much talent on a team like the pistons you can set up an offense and just let them go at it. Hence 130 point scores and 80 point individual efforts. Sendek on the other hand was able to take mediocre players and coach them into a unit.
not saying sidney lowe cant, but its gonna be completely different from nba chaperoning 5/25/2006 10:00:22 PM |
DaveOT All American 11945 Posts user info edit post |
"setting up an offense and letting them go at it" doesn't hold the Cavs to 61 points in game 7.
Like I said, the focus of the coaching is different. But just because it's not as obvious as college coaching doesn't mean it's at all less important.
And Christ, the Pistons are the WORST example you could have picked. They play so flawlessly as a team because they've been coached to do so.

Quote : | "Sendek on the other hand was able to take mediocre players and coach them into a unit." |
This made me laugh. Mostly because according to recruiting rankings, Sendek had plenty of talent to work with. But the big men never learned how to post up or box out, and the guards never learned how to protect the ball or drive and dish effectively. But hey, they were a "unit", right?
