Double Dragon 2, the 2 player coop/vs mode is some of the most fun I've ever had in a game. The sound of the rising super knee still brings a smile to my face.

Though Bionic Commando is a close second.

Back in the day it was a game called Jackal. I'm sure no one remembers it. It had a nice two player co-op feature (like Contra). Funny how there were more 2 player co-op games that take you through the single player campaigns than that there are now.
